The word “Haki” literally translates as “ambition,” and this is perhaps the biggest clue that the series has given about the origins of this power. According to Silvers Rayleigh, Haki is a power that lies dormant in all the world’s creatures, embodying a being’s presence, fighting spirit, and intimidation.
Fans know that there are three major types of Haki- Observation Haki, Armament Haki, and the Conqueror’s Haki. Despite these three types of Haki and many sub-categories existing in the world ofOne Piece, one Straw Hat member hasn’t received or awakened any of them. And it’s frustrating for fans to wait that long because this character has the biggest potential out of all of the crewmates, including Luffy, to manifest this power.
Fans want this character to awaken their Haki desperately
Nico Robin is someone who had trained with the revolutionary army for 2 years and ate the Hana Hana no Mi Devil Fruit at a young age, giving her the power to reproduce her body parts, or her entire body, on any surface at will. Back at Arabasta, she was literally a female Crocodile. Someone as strong as the main villain who had the ability to solo everyone except Luffy. And yet, she still hasn’t awakened her Haki yet.
However, Sanji basically awakened two out of the three Hakis, the Armament and Observation Haki, but the dude hasn’t trained for years nor does he have swallowed a Devil Fruit. It’s not to diss at Sanji and his fans butEiichiro Odaneeds to do Nico Robin some justice here and give her something important to do each arc.
Sure, some fans might argue that Nico Robin does not focus on combat but rather devotes her time to solving mysteries and using her brains in getting out of a tricky situation. However, Oda hasn’t given her a one-on-one fight or any straight forward fights in the last 10 years. If she was given her own battles she would need to improve in pure physical attributes.

According to some fans, Nico Robin is almost as deadly as the Monster Trio but that aspect is never focused upon because she likes to use her brains than her combat abilities. But once in a while, she could actually do some fighting. She is pretty strong with her own Devil Fruit, but Oda has to nerf her by not giving her any fighting lessons.
This means that fans will keep piling on the misogynistic allegations against Oda.
IfOne Pieceand Oda need to beat these allegations, they have to make the female characters inOne Pieceuseful enough in combat as well. However, fans suspect that Oda has already laid the hints for Nico Robin to awaken her Armament Haki.
Could Nico Robin attain Haki in the near future?
InOne PieceChapter 1021, Nico Robin whips out a brand new form called “Demonio Fleur”, a technique similar to Gigante Fleur. Robin sprouts a giant copy of her upper body, but this time, her copy features several extra appendages such as a pair of bat-like wings, shaded skin, fangs and horns, giving it the appearance of a traditional devil.
Black Maria immediately calls Robin’s new form a devil, which Robin does not deny since it will help her protect those that count on her. Robin then grabs Black Maria’s entire body and uses Gran Jacuzzi Clutch to knock her unconscious.
By looking at her form and the black shading on her legs, fans began to suspect that Nico Robin might be using Armament Haki here. f there is something about this Avatar of Robin, it’s the color. This Demonic Avatar seems to be covered by dark black skin color, almost like how Armament Haki look like in the Manga.
Black Maria is a member of the Tobiroppo and they are pretty strong because of their Haki. Fans remember Ulti even clashing with Luffy for a bit, seeing the fight go toe-to-toe. If Robin truly can’t use Haki then her chance against Black Maria would be Zero, just like what Kaido said about Haki:
Look at Roger. He had no fruit power and still brought the world to heel! Such hurdles can only be overcome with Haki!

Then why don’t fans see Robin blacken her hands or feet? Some theorize that her Haki was still too weak to turn black like Luffy or Zoro and they quote Tashigi vs Law as an example.
During Punk Hazard, Tashigi used Haki to clash with Law and still get sliced in half by his power. Fans clearly see that none of Tashigi’s body is blackened, despite the use of Haki. This implies that if one’s Haki is not strong enough, it won’t turn black.
But fans also propose the idea that what if this Demonic form of Robin is actually the first awakening of her Haki? Only Oda can confirm it in the future chapters ofOne Pieceand save himself from the allegations.
