While chatting withNew York Magazine, actressOlivia Thirlbyaired her frustration over losing her role inPineapple ExpresstoAmber Heard. She admitted to being obsessed with the project because she has always wanted to work withSeth RogenandJudd Apatow. She told the outlet:
I’d been rehearsing with them for a little while and they called me up and were like, ‘Actually, we’re going to recast your role.’ So I’m minorly, minorly ticked off. I still have no idea why.
She was certain no one in the cast and crew except the higher-ups knew why she was replaced. While she has learned to accept her fate, Thirlby believed it was just how the industry works and she should not take it personally.
As one of the writers, Rogen had a hand in the casting. He explained that they only realized what they wanted for the characters and the story as they went along, hence some changes were necessary. Still, he expressed interest in working with Thirlby in the future.
The 38-year-old star confessed she was disappointed with the decision, but it was not the end of the world for her. She continued working on independent low-budget movies and television shows. In 2023, she joinedChristopher Nolan’sOppenheimeras Lilli Hornig.
