Why I Personally Hate 82-Year-Old Harrison Ford Playing Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World
Recalling Harrison Ford’s casting as Red Hulk and discussing the process involved in visually turning him into the character, Dan Cox opened up about exploring designs while maintaining the specificities of silhouette, physique, facial expressions, and even haircuts from the comics. Stating how Ford has “one of the most identifiable faces in cinema history”, Cox noted that it wasn’t difficult to get his likeness.
He’s got one of the most identifiable faces in cinema history… Those are Harrison’s actual eyes in there; you’d be surprised how important that actually is. The nose is Harrison’s. The mouth is predominantly Harrison’s. It’s just scaled proportions.

But then, while visually turning Harrison Ford into Red Hulk wasn’t a difficult process, Dan Cox revealed what got their hearts pounding on set. Reflecting on the actor’s age as a concerning factor, Cox noted that motion capturing Ford was one hell of a task for the crew, especially since the veteran star refused to get stunt assistance, and wished to perform a few things on his own.

The visual effects supervisor thus revealed how Harrison Ford insisted on doing the challenging landing scene as Red Hulk, from the height of two feet off the ground. Dan Cox thus opened up about putting a two-foot-high apple box for Ford to stand on and do his Red Hulk landing. And according to Cox, Ford did it a dozen times untilhe eventually nailed it.
The last thing you want is to be the person that hurts Harrison Ford. At one point, I needed him landing and thought we can have the stunt guy do it. He’s like, ‘No, no, no! I’ll do it.’

I put up an apple box that’s about two feet off the ground. I’m like, ‘I need you to jump down onto the ground and land as a Hulk.’ He did it about a dozen times, and every single time, I held my breath, but he went all in.
Following his stunt that left the crew anxious, Harrison Ford proved that even at 82, he has still got the Indiana Jones agility in him. Further, demonstrating that age is no barrier to his commitment to delivering authentic performance, Ford showcased his unwavering dedication to his craft, despite concerns from the crew.

Captain America: Brave New Worldis scheduled to be released on August 08, 2025.
