Eric Kripke has been responsible for some of the greatest shows, being cornerstones of multiple fandoms. Be itThe Boys, orSupernatural, Kripke has been very keen on making some of fandom’s greatest shows, which have had a lot of time to grow and build their own lore across multiple seasons.

Speaking about the nature of his shows, Kripke revealed that there was something that distinguished the shows that he created from shows likeLost, andHeroes. The key difference in shows like Supernatural is the fact that there is very little internal mythology for them to work with, which can shift and change in each installment of the narrative.

Eric Kripke prefers shows likeX-FilesandBuffy the Vampire Slayer

Speaking withThe Futon Critic, Eric Kripke had a lot to say about his choice in shows and how the lack of set mythology allowed him to go buck wild, narratively speaking. When speaking about why his stories have a different flavor, Kripke revealed:

Yeah, it’s a personal preference of mine, my own taste. I think “Lost” is a terrific show but personally my own taste isn’t to have endless mythology. Because the answers are never going to be satisfying at the end of the day, I promise you. It’s so hard to go season after season after season with a mystery and then provide an answer that’s going to be satisfying.

He continued:

So I was much more a fan of the early “X-Files” structure. I thought “Buffy” did it brilliantly. You know, the idea of one mythology a year. Or early “X-Files” which is mostly standalones interspersed within the mythology which I think is probably more our structure.

Erik Kripke‘s strategy has worked well for shows likeSupernatural, which have managed to have some quirky episodes that might not have been possible with a set canon. These ideas allow Kripke and his team to explore the worlds that they create more narratively, such that they are not constrained by concepts introduced in the universe in previous iterations.

Eric Kripke might just complete his Winchester wish list inThe Boys

AfterJeffery Dean MorganandJensen Acklesjoined the cast of The Boys, speculations were rife among fans ifThe Boyswould go the distance and introduce the third member of the Winchester trio from Supernatural. Jensen Ackles joined the show as Homelander’s biological father and this universe’s Captain America figure: Soldier Boy. The next season saw Jeffery Dean Morgan appear as Joe Kessler, Butcher’s longtime ally and friend, who has now returned as a ghost thanks to the tumor in Butcher’s head.

The next season ofThe Boysseems to have onboarded Jared Padalecki, the second Winchester brother from Kripke’s other hit show,Supernatural. While it has not been revealed what role the actor might be essaying, looks like Eric Kripke has gotten the Winchester boys back together for the last season.

While it is unlikely that they will be able to have a scene together where they interact, it is very much possible that they could be in the same scene without their characters being aware of the other.
