There is not much time left for Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece, One Piece, to come to an end as the first arc of the final saga approaches its conclusion. The series has been going on for almost 30 years and is considered to be one of the longest series of all time with over 1000+ anime episodes and manga chapters.

ManyOne Piecefans have been troubled with the question about what will happen after the series ends. While some believe that Oda might work on a spin-off series, some think that after working on a single manga for so long, the creator might take retirement and enjoy the rest of his life.

However, Oda has already answered this question in 2007. During one of his interviews, Oda talked about how he would never make a spin-offOne Pieceseries or any other epic story for that matter. He even revealed what he plans to do afterOne Pieceends and his plans are inspired from Akira Toriyama.

An interview with Oda from 2007 was published on the Manga Tengoku website and was later translated byThegrandline, where he talked about how he entered the manga industry and what was his process of writingOne Piece. At the end of the interview, he was asked about his motifs after the epic story ofOne Pieceis finally finished.

Oda stated:

“Yeah really, there are a lot of things I’d like to do. Not just limited to comics, I’d also like to make something like a movie. However, unlike before, rather than an epic tale I’m really feeling more inclined to drawing a short but tight story. After I finish One Piece I don’t think I’ll do another long-running serialized comic.”

Eiichiro Odatalked about how he has a bunch of things he would like to do and he even shared his desire to make a movie. However, the intriguing thing is that Oda now no longer wants to make another long-running serialized comic.

Talking about his plans after completingOne Piece, Oda stated that he has been inspired byAkira Toriyama, the creator ofDragon Balland just like him, Oda too would publish short or single-volume stories.

“After I complete it I think much like Akira Toriyama-sensei, I’ll put out a single volume story every once in a while. Right now I’m really yearning for that kind of style. And that’s exactly why right now, I’m going to put all of my energy into One Piece. If I keep thinking that this is my first and my last long-running manga, my motivation won’t run dry.”

Although he will most likely publish short stories according to his plans, fans will still get to read and enjoy the incredible works of one of the greatest mangaka in the world.
