AMy Hero Academiatheory suggests an unassuming spy amongst the students of Class 1A. But the worst part is that the student in question might not even know their role in the grand scheme of things.

My Hero AcademiaTheory Suggests Dark Shadow is a Nomu

Dark Shadow is the first sentient Quirk to be introduced inMy Hero Academia(later followed by Soul). Dark Shadow is the Quirk ofFumikage Tokoyami, which takes the shape of a dark shadowy monster that materializes from Tokoyami’s body while being bound to him through an umbilical cord. Quirks are unique abilities inMy Hero Academiaand thus don’t have their own thoughts, but Dark Shadow has its own will.

This has led to afan theorythat Dark Shadow might actually be a Nemu working for the League of Villains. According to a particular theory, Dark Shadow might have been Tokoyami’s twin before its death. However, someone wanted the twin to live (maybe Tokoyami’s parents). Thus, they took the last resort and let the twin turn into a Nomu rather than being erased from existence. Thus, Dark Shadow might have been born from the corpse of Tokoyami’s twin, much like Kurogiri, who is also different from other Nomus.

However, since the body of the Nomu was incomplete, Tokoyami’s body had to be used as a host. This is why they are always connected by something referred to as the umbilical cord, which even restricts their movements at times. This might have been the only way to resurrect the twin from the dead, and Tokoyami’s parents might have had some connections to the League to make the deed happen.

Dark Shadow Could Have Been the One to Leak Information to AFO

If Dark Shadow was indeed a Nomu that was planted into Tokoyami,a theorysuggests that it might have beensecretly serving All For Oneinstead of its host. Under the guise of protecting Tokoyami, Dark Shadow might have been supplying information to the League of Villains all along. Since Dark Shadow is sentient and its sensations or feelings aren’t transferred to Tokoyami, it is possible that the information exchange was happening with Tokoyami having no idea about it.

If Dark Shadow is indeed a Nomu, it makes sense why it acts the way it does. After all, it was created from the body of a child. WhileYuga Aoyama has already been established as the traitorof Class 1A who had been supplying information to All For One, Dark Shadow might have been a better alternative forKohei Horikoshito choose.

This way, none of the students in the class would be incriminated, and the mystery would stay for longer, especially since no one would be able to figure out that it isn’t a person but a quirk who is committing the betrayal.

My Hero Academiamanga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
