Monster Hunter Toolbar

Monster Hunter has so much to do and plenty of weapons to use, that it can be a bit overwhelming. If you are looking for tips to help get you into the game then this list should help.

10Use Your Toolbar

You have a Toolbar you may use to get to things quicker instead of going into the menu. On the Toolbar, you can access the menu for fast travel while in the village, you can take in-game pictures, emote and chat with online players. While in a quest you can also use it to mount your Buddy, command them to stop or follow, and you can call your pet to you also.

In a quest, you also have a separate Toolbar in the bottom right. This one is like an inventory bar, so you can access things like potions, rations, bombs, etc. This means you do not have to access the menu when fighting to heal and replenish stamina.

Monster Hunter Training Area

9Use The Training Area

When you are starting out it can be hard to know how best to deal with the monsters you are hunting. That is why using the training area is important, you may use all the different weapons at your disposal. This is important because some weapons are better than others, and can vary depending on your play style.

This also allows you to strategize based on monsters too, so you’re able to see which weapons work best on what monsters when picking and choosing quests. It will also help you learn different combos you can utilize depending on the weapons you choose.

Monster Hunter Maps

8Use The Map When Questing

It may seem simple but when you are on a quest make sure to use the map. Either the mini-map in the bottom left or the big map in the main menu. If you are looking for a monster then it will show as a question mark on the map, or for smaller monsters and collectible quest items a red dot.

When tracking the large monsters, once found they will show as a drawing of what you are hunting, and in the top left you can select a monster to hunt when hunting multiple. This will then highlight it on the map with a box around it, the map is also useful as it will show where the monster is going to be moving to.

Monster Hunter Timer

7Remember You Are On The Clock

When you enter a quest you then only have a set time to complete it,in most cases 50 minutes. This means that you will fail the mission should the timer run out, so make sure you are prepared and ready to take on this mission.

If you need to take a step away from the mission you can by pausing the game. When you enter the menu this does not pause the game, but if you navigate to the cogs you can select pause. This will then stop the game and the timer, so you can pause and come back to it, as long as the game stays open.

Monster Hunter Bug Buffs

6Keep Your Eyes Peeled For Bug Buffs

When you are on a quest you need to keep an eye out for the various bugs you can find. These bugs do different things to help you while completing quests. As you can see your health and stamina bars are not filled all the way this is because you can find bugs in the quest that will increase your maximum health and stamina.

You can also find bugs to increase both defense and attack also, so finding these bugs are important. Once you leave the quest these reset, so you will need to find them each time you enter a quest. As well as these bugs you will also be able to find Wirebugs that give you extra wire dodges. These are really handy when fighting large monsters as you can dodge quicker and recover when knocked down.

5Use Your Buddy

When you are trying to move around the map a bit quicker, especially when hunting monsters you should use your Buddy. This is a Dog you get to have alongside you which you’re able to customize and utilize in fights. To ride your Buddy you can mount it by holding down B or Circle on a controller. While on the Dog you can sprint and climb up to higher areas to find your monsters. This makes traversing the map much easier and will help you to complete quests quicker and within the time limit. Even when you are not using your buddy they will engage monsters and help you in fights, unless you command them not to.

In addition to the Dog, you have a Cat that you can choose when creating your character. While customizing them you can choose what you want them to do to aid you (heal, fight, tank, etc.). These are great to have especially the healing kind to verify you do not faint when trying to complete quests. You can also go to the Buddy area in the village to hire different Buddies and make changes to them.

4Make Sure To Check Your Boxes

There are two different boxes you should keep an eye on, your item box and the quest box. Firstly the equipment box is found in the village in multiple places in the Hub and next to the Quest Maiden. This holds any equipment you own that is not equipped and also any items that you have taken out of a quest that you can use for crafting and upgrades. The other box is located at the start of a quest in base camp this will have some basic supplies in to help you like potions, rations, and crafting supplies. You may not have room for all of it, but it is best to check in case you need them.

Make sure you check these boxes as you may end up buying duplicate things, like potions or traps, etc. when you already have them in a box somewhere. This will save you valuable resources and money which you could need later in the game.

3Make Sure To Prepare For Quests

Once you have chosen a quest, make sure to prepare for it in the village. You can use the shop to get any crafting resources, potions, and traps that you might need to help you capture or kill your monster. You should also hit up the forge here you can forge new weapons or upgrade your current weapons. This can be the difference between completing or not completing your quest, as the more you upgrade your weapons the stronger they are.

You are also able to forge and upgrade armor also, this will help you to survive when fighting larger monsters and make sure you don’t faint. Upgrading armor is hard if you don’t have many resources, but you can buy them should you have the funds available.

2Craft What You Need

If you are on a quest, and you have burnt through all the inventory that you prepared for the quest then you can craft on the fly to help you out. You need resources to craft these can be found in the quest, you will also find things like jars in the quest box at the start area.

A great feature that you may set up is an auto craft, this is done in the crafting menu. What this allows is as soon as you have the resources available and space in your inventory then that item will be crafted. This is great for potions and certain traps, so you always have access to them in your item bar when fighting.

1You Can Play Online

If you seem to be struggling to complete quests on your own, or you need a little help getting some reward money then jump online. You can either play with friends or matchmakeand this can be activated in the village.

You are able to have people join your village and help you with quests that you need to complete, or you can join someone else’s village. You just need to verify you are at the right level to help them with their level of the quest.
