Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake is being pitted againstSplinter Cell’s Sam Fisher in a sudden internet debate to determine who is the ultimate stealth legend. But, let’s face it, there’s going to be no real winner in this argument.
Throughout gaming history, many stealth games have come and gone. But gigantic franchises such asHitman, Splinter Cell,Assassin’s Creed, and Metal Gear Solid have remained a persistent source of espionage entertainment. Agent 47, Solid Snake, Sam Fisher, Ezio Auditore, and many more have become household names (if you’re a house full of gamers, that is) over the years.

Every Splinter Cell Game, Ranked
Third and Fourth Echelon’s finest operatives, and one of Ubisoft’s best characters. Sam Fisher and the Splinter Cell series are the cream of the crop.
When it comes to Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid, both franchises haven’t seen a new entry in the last ten years (Sorry, Metal Gear Survive fans,we’re not counting that one). However, while neither Ubisoft nor Konami are working on a brand-new entry, both studios have confirmed that remakes for the franchises are in development.

Ubisoft Toronto confirmed it wasworking on a remakeof theoriginal Splinter Cell in December 2021, which the studio says will be “rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine.” As for Metal Gear fans, Konamiannounced during a PlayStation showcasein May of last year that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was in the works.
So, with both franchises having something to look forward to, why can’t we all just get along?

Splinter Cell Fans Headbutt With Metal Gear Solid Fans
Earlier this week,a post appeared on the Splinter Cell subreddit, seemingly discrediting Solid Snake’s years of fieldwork in favour of Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher. The post in question is titled, “Just gonna leave this here,” and includes a side-by-side image of Metal Gear Solid 4’s Solid Snake and Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher, but with a giant red X on Snake and a funny-looking green tick on Sam Fisher.
As you can imagine, this post didn’t go down too well over on the Metal Gear Solid subreddit. In a now-deleted post, Metal Gear Solid fans called the comparison “BS,” with many other Solid Snake fans divided over the argument. While some couldn’t understandwhy the two characters even needed to be compared, others made their stance clear.

“I quite agree. Splinter Cell is a better series of games,“Reddit user SpudAlmighty said.
However, after fans continued to go back and forth in the comments section, a myriad of posts began appearing on the Splinter Cell subreddit in favour of both of these gaming legends. “Correction,“one post stateswith an image of Solid Snake and Sam Fisher, this time with two green ticks over the characters.Another postcalls the characters “brothers,” not “opponents.”
While you’ll still find fans arguing over who is the better stealth legend, the overall sentiment is clear: both can live in harmony and be two of gaming’s greatest characters.
