In Iron Man VR, the player takes the role of the armored businessman Tony Stark, the well-known Marvel protagonist who builds a robotic suit on a quest for redemption to fight and end the wars he helped fund and create before his turn as a hero. Against him stands one of the lesser-known comic villains called Ghost, a super hacker who fights Iron Man with various drones spread all over the world. On PSVR, players had to use the Playstation Move controllers in each hand to mimic Iron Man’s palm-mounted repulse weapons, which turned out to be a little fiddly given the lack of directional input. However, on Meta Quest 2, players will be afforded more movement options with the Meta Quest 2 controllers that feature analogue sticks as well as more favourable tracking.

Iron Man VR First Person Prespective

In theNYCC 2019panel, the developers elaborated on the thematic core of the game, and that it’s meant to immerse players not only in the shoes of the robotic Iron Man, but also Tony Stark, the human being inside the suit. For the developer, Ghost is a villain made specifically for the sake of Tony Stark, as Ghost is an anti-corporation hacker whose quest is to specifically bring down Tony Stark and Stark Corporations. The goal of a VR game with limited scope was to make the fight as personal as possible, and for that sake, the developer crafted Ghost as a literal ghost from Tony’s past, who fights him with the same weapons of war he once used to manufacture.

There are exciting things on the horizon, and we can’t wait to tell you more…

Along with the announcements, the studio’s head, Ryan Payton, teased even more good things to come in the near future, and surely all of them will be VR oriented and catered towards the next generation of VR in collaboration with Meta.
