If you playMarvel Rivals’Ranked mode, chances are you’ve scratched your head more than once regarding matches you’ve had.. There are instances where you completely steamroll the enemy, and times where your teammates are no better than bots.

It’s definitely befuddling what’s happening with matchmaking, and it’s one that developer NetEase will address soon.

This is probably the most important topic that players are looking forward to the most, even more than new heroes and levels.

Marvel Rivals Matchmaking Questions To Be Answered Soon

If you’re one of the many Marvel Rivals players that does not understand the hero shooter’s matchmaking algorithm, you’re not alone. While the developers at NetEase have remained mum on how the game’s matchmaking works, that’s about to change soon.

While most multiplayer games adopt an SBMM (Skill-Based Matchmaking algorithm) system, that doesn’t seem to be the case for Marvel Rivals. The hero shooter seems to employ EOMM (Engagement Optimized Matchmaking), which honestly speaking, doesn’t make sense if you’re playing a competitive mode.

For those unfamiliar with EOMM, instead of matching you against players of similar skill, the game’s matchmaking system also attempts to ensure the player is engaged by not letting you lose too much. If you’re on a losing stream, the EOMM might throw you a bone by placing you into matches that are horribly outranked by you and your teammates ensuring a win, and thus saving you from completely turning off the game in frustration.

This also works both ways, as if you’re on a massive win streak, it will give you the sweats of sweats, to stop the player from getting bored. It’s a toss-up for now, but that will change soon.

Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun Chen, in an interview with YouTube channelRivals Assembled(viaGamesRadar), said that “matchmaking is a complex system. And we are preparing a video to talk about all the matchmaking things. So stay tuned. Maybe in two weeks.”

All will be revealed soon, hopefully. Perhaps this will give some gamers an idea of how it all works, or maybe NetEase will give answers but be vague enough that players won’t know what’s going on.

As someone who’s been playing Competitive in Marvel Rivals, I’ve seen these inconsistencies firsthand. I’d sometimes go up against enemies that literally look like they’re lost or have no right to be in Ranked. If not that, then it’s the other way around, and you’re matched with players that have no clue what they’re doing.

Not only that, but in multiplayer games, most of the time, SBMM makes it so your win rate is at 50%, which means you’re winning as much as you’re losing. In Marvel Rivals, I rarely see that. Checking career records of people I’ve played with or against, more often than not, their win rate is at 40% or even 30%, which is confusing to see if the person is at Diamond or Grandmaster rank.

Hopefully, NetEase sheds some light on it for everyone’s sake. In other Marvel Rivals,NetEase has 12 months' worth of heroes prepped, which means we won’t be lacking in content anytime soon.
