Marvel Rivalsis a free game that costs nothing to play. You can go hundreds of hours without spending a dime in the hero shooter and still have a fulfilling, AAA experience.
However, along your journey in Marvel Rivals, you’ll begin to accrue different types of currency. The sources of currency vary depending on what type you’re earning and how you acquire it. These different currencies are spent in various ways and allow you to obtain some pretty nice rewards.

Before you go spending any currency in Marvel Rivals, though, you need to know what types there are, how to earn them, and what they can purchase. We’ll go over all of that in the guide below.
All Currency Types in Marvel Rivals
As it stands, there are three main currencies in Marvel Rival that you can earn for your account. The currency types are:
Each currency is earned in a different way and has individual uses in Marvel’s hero shooter. Two of the currencies are earned through playtime andcompleting challenges/missions, while the other is primarily used as a microtransaction facilitator.

First up, we have the currency you can’t usually earn in-game in Marvel Rivals without breaking out your wallet. Lattice can be compared toV-Bucks in Fortniteor COD Points in Call of Duty. It’s represented by the gold coin icon in-game.
It’s a premium currency that is mainly acquired using real-life money. In exchange for your money, you earn different amounts of Lattice depending on how much money you spend.
100 Lattice is the lowest denomination of the currency and can be bought individually. You can also purchase Lattice in bundles that range from 1,000 to 11,680 of the currency.
Every 100 Lattice can be roughly equated to $1, so 500 Lattice costs $5, 1,000 Lattice costs $10, and so on. The main use for the Lattice you buy is to purchase a seasonal Battle Pass, but that could change in the future.
Marvel Rivals: How to Create and Join a Faction
Factions allow you to meet other players and join lobbies in Marvel Rivals easily, but how do you actually get into one?
The developers at NetEase Games have stated they plan to make Lattice earnable through the seasonal Battle Passes. However, this would likely only be a reward on theLuxury Tiers of Battle Pass, which is purchased through Lattice. Essentially, you’re buying and using Lattice to earn more of it.
To buy Lattice, click the gold coin icon on the top-right of your screen. From there, you’ll be prompted to pick how much Lattice you want to purchase.
Next up, we have Units, which is the currency you’ll likely use the most of in Marvel Rivals. Units are represented by the blue coin icon in-game.
This currency is how you purchase cosmetic items from the game’s shop as well asindividual hero skins. For the most part, you’ll need around 1,500 Units to purchase hero skins and over 2,000 Units to purchase an entire store bundle that contains more cosmetics.
You can earn Units in a few different ways. The main way to earn them is by completing Achievements in Marvel Rivals.
If you go to the present icon at the top-right of the main menu in Marvel Rivals, you’ll visit your profile. From here, navigate to theAchievements sectionand scroll through the different sections. In each section, there’s a present icon on the right side of the box.
This is where you can view the rewards for completing Achievements in that section. Most of the time, your reward is 100 Units or additional currency. However, the more Achievements you complete, the more Units are offered as a reward.

Another way to earn Units is by completing Battle Pass tiers and events. Units are a common reward on the Battle Pass and in events, such as the recentWinter Celebration event. You will need to purchase the Luxury Battle Pass to earn all available Units, but free-tier players can still earn some.
The final way to acquire Units is by converting Lattice. If you click the blue Units icon in Marvel Rivals, you’ll see an option to convert Lattice to Units. Every one Lattice spent equates to one Unit. This essentially allows you to purchase Lattice, convert it to Units, and use that newfound currency to buy cosmetics from the shop.
If you save up enough Units, though, you may purchase shop bundles and skins without having to spend any money on Lattice.
Chrono Tokens
Finally, the last currency type in Marvel Rivals is Chrono Tokens. These are represented by the purple lightning coin icon in-game. The Chrono Tokens icon can only be viewed in the Battle Pass tab.
Chrono Tokens work differently than Units and Lattice. They can still be obtained by playtime and don’t require real-life money to purchase, but their use is limited.
You can only spend Chrono Tokens to acquire tiers on the Battle Pass. Every tier of the Battle Pass in Marvel Rivals costs 200 Chrono Tokens to unlock. Once you complete a page of the Battle Pass, you move on to the next and have to spend more Chrono Tokens to unlock those tiers.
Chrono Tokens are primarily earned by completing missions and achievements in Marvel Rivals. Earning them through Achievements works the same way as it does with Units.
As for Missions, you may view those by going to the “Season” tab in the main menu and then viewing the “Missions” section. Here, you’re able to see all the tasks you need to complete to earn more Chrono Tokens. There are both Daily and Weekly Missions to complete, so you shouldn’t ever run out of the currency.
Like with Units, you’re able to also convert Lattice to Chrono Tokens. This is done the same way, which just requires you to click the Chrono Tokens icon at the top of the screen. Once again, you can use Lattice to buy your way through the Battle Pass if you wish.
However, you can earn hundreds of Chrono Tokens every day in Marvel Rivals if you play enough, so spending Lattice on them isn’t the wisest financial decision.
Aside from those three currency types, the only other currencies in Marvel Rivals are event-specific. For example, the Golden Frosts are earned through the Winter Celebration event, but these are simply used to redeem event rewards.

If you want to get into a proper fistfight in Marvel Rivals, you’ll want characters like Iron Fist or Wolverine.
