If Evans’ character was kept alive, we could have very well seen him joining forces with the new and old Avengers inAvengers: Doomsday.This would have allowed Robert Downey Jr. (as Doctor Doom) and Chris Evans (as Human Torch) to come face-to-face with each other (again).

Wonder how that meeting went. In all seriousness though, Robert Downey Jr. was indeed asked for a cameo in Reynolds’Deadpool & Wolverinebut the actor had to reject the opportunity.
What’s harrowing is that the writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese had no idea that Downey Jr. was going to appear as Doctor Doom in the MCU. Thus, the denying of the actor seemed a bit odd to them.
In an interview withIndieWire, the writers talked about how they tried to pitch the cameo to Downey Jr. but the actor kept on insisting ‘no’.
Behind the scenes, we didn’t know about the Doctor Doom. And there’s no way he was going to do both. And then we said, “Oh, Downey doesn’t say ‘no’ to Ryan Reynolds, does he?

No one says no to Ryan Reynolds. And Ryan gave him the hard press. We wrote scenes, and Downey read the scenes, but what we didn’t know behind the scenes was this Doctor Doom thing.
All in all, if Robert Downey Jr. had agreed, then we might have hadChris Evansand Downey Jr. sharing the screen once again. However, the gods of the MCU seemed to have different plans for the actors.
