The director ofThe Legend of Zeldalive-action movie, Wes Ball, is set on taking the franchise on with gusto. Ball, who directed The Maze Runner series and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will be producing the film with Avi Arad, producer of the Oscar-winningSpider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, and Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly, who will be putting their magical touch to the script.
Taking to Reddit’s AMA, Ball was promoting his upcoming Apes movie by answering fan questions but also touched upon the development of The Legend of Zelda live-action and how he would love to pursue the Zelda franchise more in regard to its narrative and characters - that’s if the movie gets enough butts in the seats.

The Complete Legend of Zelda Timeline, Explained
To better understand the legendary universe of The Legend of Zelda, it’s crucial to comprehend Hyrulean lore and the famous timeline.
Even though Wes Ball couldn’t disclose very much about where they were in development, other than he loves the Zelda franchise and that he’ll “work my ass off to make something great for us.”, Ball did offer a little tidbit in the way of their intentions with Legend of Zelda live-action if luck is on their side with the current project. In theReddit AMA, a question was posed to Ball asking if the film does well, are there plans in place to extend the series, with him replying in a short summary, “Yes. We’d love to continue with the story and characters.”

Ball was also asked what guidance he took away from making Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes that could be implemented into his Zelda live-action movie. “Keep the money on the screen. Be ambitious. Be confident in the talent around you. Try to do something great.” stated Ball.
Despite not being able to talk too much about his Zelda project and remaining guarded about what he would spill, he certainly couldn’t help himself by responding to a fan question about whether John Cena would take on the role of Navi, a fairy who guides Link throughout the games. “You never know” replied Ball, with probably the biggest smile on his face.

Chatting with Total Film in March (viaGamesRadar), Ball shared his hopes and dreams for the movie and how he wants it to be an important part of Zelda fan’s world. “I’ve been thinking about it for a long freakin' time. I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people, and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape.”
Nintendo is teaming up with Sony Pictures to create the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie and although there is no official timeline regarding if it has begun yet or when fans will get to see it, we have all our fingers crossed that it will be exactly how Ball envisions it.
