Dark fantasy action-adventure seriesLegacy of Kainhasn’t seen an official title released in nearly two decades, but the team behind the game seems to be putting out feelers in its fan base to see if and how they’d like the series to proceed.

As reported byPCGamesN, original developer Crystal Dynamics has released a fansurveyconsisting of a variety of questions about the series. Including among those questions is one asking what fans would like to see most: a remake or remaster of one of the series' original games, a sequel to continue the current series of dark adventures, or a full series reboot. The four choices appear as ranked options.

Legacy of Kain Survey Questions Regarding Remake, Remaster, Sequel, Or Reboot

Additionally, the survey is asking respondents which of the five series games should get the first remake or remaster, should the company decide to take that route.Taking into account the age of the series, a question regarding the possibility of a potential sequel asks whether it should include a recap of the previous games to catch less-familiar players up to speed with current events.

The original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, told the tale of a slain lord who is resurrected as a vampire and tries to right a world thrown into chaos by the destruction and corruption of its divine figureheads. The game climaxes as Kain discovers he is one of the corrupted ones and leaves the player with a choice of sacrificing himself for the sake of his world or choosing to rule over it. As there are four subsequent games in the series, the canon plot suggests he chose the latter of those two options.

This isn’t the first time the series has been hinted at coming back from the undead following the release of the fifth and, so far, final game in the series, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which was released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox back in 2003. Ten years following the release of that game, Square Enix attempted to create a multiplayer experience calledNosgoth, named for the world over which Kain holds dominion. While never intended as a direct sequel, and without any involvement from Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix got as far as holding an open beta testing session for the game in early 2015 before scrapping the unreleased product altogether the following year. Another question in the survey gauges interest on whether a potential future game should be a single-player experience, multiplayer co-op, or multiplayer PvP, which may leave a second attempt at a Nosgoth-like game as an additional option for the company.
