Speculation thatSilent Hillwill soon be revived by Konami continues as the publisher updates the game’s official trademark.
Silent Hillswas set to be the ninth instalment to the hugely popularSilent Hillfranchise, with Norman Reedus set to star as the game’s main protagonist. Director and screenwriter Guillermo del Toro was also working on the project as he teamed up withMetal Gear Solidcreator, Hideo Kojima.
The game was unfortunately cancelled back in 2015, a year after a demo known as P.T was released on the PlayStation Store. In a statement toKotaku, Konami said that they are “committed to new Silent Hill titles”, but would not be continuing the development ofSilent Hillsstarring Norman Reedus.
Hideo Kojima would then go on to leave Konami shortly after the announcement, teaming up with Del Toro and Reedus for a new project which we all now know asDeath Stranding.
But with Konami reportedly still invested in continuing theSilent Hillfranchise, is the wait finally over after 7 years?
Konami Digital Entertainment Updates Silent Hill Trademark
As spotted by eagle-eyed Reddit user,LongJonSilver, Konami Digital Entertainment has updated the trademark for theSilent Hillfranchise, along with multiple other trademarks.
We want to point out that this trademark doesn’t officially mean that a new game or revival is actually in the works. But, it certainly shows that Konami hasn’t forgotten about the series.
Plus, when paired with a report byVGCfrom October of 2021 that Konami is set to reviveMetal Gear, Castlevania,andSilent Hill, things certainly get interesting.
Sources told the outlet that the publisher is set to ramp up its premium game development after becoming more known for Pachinko gambling games than actual triple-A titles like they were once known for.
Another interesting tidbit from the trademark forSilent Hillreferences ‘virtual reality headset’, suggesting that if a new game is actually in the works, it may be as a VR title.
Although fans will certainly be excited about a newSilent Hilltitle, it’s also important to remember that neither Del Toro nor Kojima will be at the helm, which is arguably what made the cancelled 2015 game so exciting.
