It looks like SNK will break the silence aroundKOF XV, the company just promised hot news will be coming to Gamescom on August 25.

The King of Fighters XVnews coming at Gamescom - Predictions

Over on Twitter, SNK announced that new information forThe King of Fighters XVwill be revealed at the Gamesom Opening Online event on August 25 (CEST). No further details were shared. You can find the tweet right below.

Right now, SNK is regularly releasing very short trailers revealing more playable characters. The latest revealed character inKOF 15is Antonov, who forms Team G.A.W. with Ramon and King of Dinosaurs.

However, we have yet to see an actual gameplay mechanics breakdown article or video from SNK. So we’re still completely in the dark regarding some of the new mechanics seen in these short trailers. This is definitely what SNK should deliver on at Gamescom, besides one or two popular characters reveal like Kula, Nakoruru, or Angel. Maybe we’ll get a surprise like moreMetal SlugorSamurai Shodowncharacters joining too.

I love every single SNK character ever since I was a kid. And it’s fun guessing who’s getting a trailer next and who’ll end up in the game. And in which Team. However, what fighting game players want is a proper breakdown of the mechanics, and it’s puzzling SNK still hasn’t delivered. Meanwhile,Melty Blood Type Lumina, another upcoming fighting game, got everything perfectly right.

In related news,Samurai Shodown has just officially announced it’s adding Baiken fromGuilty Gearto its roster. Baiken will be released on August 19. Meanwhile,Metal Slug Tacticswas announced on Nintendo Switch on top of PC.

The King Of Fighters XVwasfirst announcedin December 2018, for a 2020 release. It was then officially revealed in January 2021 after a delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On June 07, 2025, SNK delayedKOF XVfrom 2021 to early 2022, citing more complications due to the pandemic situation in Japan.

In late 2020, SNK alsohad 33% of its shares bought by MiSK,the non-profit foundation of Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, which is now the largest shareholder. MBS is ultimately planning to own 51% of SNK’s shares. This changed nothing for the games themselves and I definitely don’t expect anything to change in the future, such as censorship, seeing the sole reason why MBS bought SNK in the first place is for his public image. Either way, this change of ownership is definitely a disappointment in my book.

The King of Fighters XVwill launch in the first quarter of 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows 10). A short special anime directed byMasami Obariis also in production. Stay tuned for theKOF XVnews at Gamescom. You can also always reach me on Twitter@A_iyane07.
