Things are going fast at Marvel Studios asAvengers: Doomsdayreportedly begins production this March in England. After it was announced in July 2024 that the studio won’t be moving forward with the Kang storyline following Jonathan Majors’ arrest, they have replaced the villain with Doctor Doom who will be played by Robert Downey Jr.

All of these turns of events brought a shock to the fans. Marvel choosing not to recast Kang the Conqueror could have repercussions, especially after they have already established him in the MCU.

Marvel fan criticized MCU’s latest era as they move forward withAvengers: Doomsday

After the phenomenal successes ofAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgame, the community was plagued by the so-called superhero fatigue during the fourth phase of the MCU, making it difficult to pick up the momentum again. It also did not help how several theatrical releases in the past few years failed to perform critically and commercially.

5 Marvel Superheroes We Want to See in “Avengers: Doomsday”

Fans’ waning interest in the MCU saga may have been brought by many factors, and a fan onXshared the possible reason whyAvengers: Doomsdaymight not work—eventually sending the franchise to the pits of hell.

I truly hate how this era of the MCU has been handled. You’re going in without an Avengers team, where you’re going to adapt the most important Event of Marvel history, ever. With no build up because you chose to completely scrap plans than recastIt is so incredibly mishandledhttps://t.co/BWfsJxTaPT

5 Marvel Superheroes We Want to See in “Avengers: Doomsday”

Doomsdayis one of the biggest events in Marvel Comics, which will likely lead to the events ofSecret Wars. Like the previousAvengersinstallments, it also needs a good set-up and establishment of characters and storylines.Infinity WarandEndgamemade sense since we had eleven years and countless films leading to the big event.

It worked because there was an Avengers team, and we saw the whole process of how they came together. According to the fans, even theFantastic Fourfranchise might have to compromise and adjust haphazardly since the dynamics between Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom have not been established. The return ofRobert Downey Jr.also felt manufactured rather than justified.

Avengers: Doomsday Theory – Robert Downey Jr’s Greatest Threat Is in Agatha All Along

At this point, the fan thinks that the biggest event in Marvel Comics has been reduced toKevin Feige’s attempt at bringing back the hype on MCU films. Only time will tell how the upcoming movie will fare and how it will comprehensively set up the events leading toSecret Wars.

Fans aren’t happy with MCU’s pacing

Netizens agreed with the fan’s argument aboutAvengers: Doomsdaybeing mishandled by the MCU bosses. To this day, we still haven’t got any idea how they wouldincorporate Doom into the story. Read their tweets below:

With boderline no set up for Dr Doom at all. It could have been done far better years ago but they wasted time. Clearly mishandled and clearly they had very little plan.

The Multiversal just allowed them to get so incredibly lazy with the writing and Fiege needs to recieve more criticism, theres no way he read scripts like Love&Thunder, MoM, Quantamania, Marvels, Secret Invasion, DP&W, or She-Hulk and thought “yeah this is great”

Altho I’m excited, yeah I agree. It feels like they are rushing instead of building up. I would rather for them stick with kang and recast him. I still feel like casting RDJ as doctor doom isn’t a good idea instead of giving the role to someone else

Jonathan Majors as Kang

i wanna be excited for doomsday and secret wars but yea the lack of build up is just horrible man. really wondering how they’re gonna do it

For real, like who even are the avengers of this movie? They’ve had six years to establish a new team after all the originals left but there has been NOTHING, not even with any of the new characters they’ve been shitting out every project.

There is no turning back now, so all we can do is hope for the best and see if it’s worth all the effort of replacing Kang’s storyline and bringing back Downey Jr. to the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsdaywill hit theatres on June 01, 2025.
