There are various manga awards that aim to support upcoming talented mangakas. These awards not only give a platform to such emerging mangakas they also provide monetary help. Naoya Matsumoto, the creator ofKaiju No. 8, is the judge of one such upcoming manga contest.

Shonen Jump+ is a digital manga platform created by Shueisha that operates as a free app. It hosts original Shueisha titles likeOne Piece, Kaiju No. 8, Chainsaw Man, and a total of 90 manga series.

Kaiju No. 8‘s Naoya Matsumoto Judges the Shonen Jump+ Manga Award

On the 10th anniversary ofShueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app, the manga platform has announced a huge manga award as a part of its celebration. The total prize pool is 10 million yen (around $68,000). This award aims to support the emerging manga artists of the industry who will later shape the future.

It is the largest-ever award hosted by Shonen Jump+ yet. A total of 10 special judges will select one outstanding series each. The winner from these 10 selected words will receive an award that will be named after the respective judge. Among the judges is Naoya Matsumoto, the creator ofKaiju No. 8.

Kaiju No. 8has been a successful andgripping serialization, shootingNaoya Matsumototo fame. It ranked third in theKono Manga ga Sugoi!2022 list in the category of best manga for male readers.

How to Submit Your Work and What is the Grand Prize?

The Grand Prize for the winner is 3 million yen or around $20,400. The Honorable Mention will win around $2000. Each of the 10 category winners chosen by the guest judges will win $6800 each. For artists under 20 years old, a special Teen Award with a prize of approximately $1360 will be provided.

The deadline for submission is June 02, 2025 and the portal has already been open since June 16, 2025. The winners will be announced on the official website in May 2025, though an exact date has not been fixed yet.

Professional as well as amateur artists arewelcome to participate,and the authorities have placed no restrictions on genre, reading orientation or format. However, all the works are required to be in Japanese. Each participant can submit up to 5 original works that have not been published previously.
