Actor Jon Cryer played the role of Alan Harper in one of the most popular sitcoms of the 2000sTwo and a Half Men. Cryer started his stint on the hit series starring opposite Charlie Sheen, who is arguably the more popular one among the two lead actors. However, following Sheen’s infamous exit from the series, Cryer carried on the series for four more seasons.

The actor was embroiled in a heated argument with a supposed fan of the series on social media. The latter claimed that the series was a success only because of Sheen and things went downhill after his exit. However, Cryer had a fitting reply to the fans, which proves that he is equally worthy of credit for the show’s success. Jon Cryerspent twelve seasons as Alan Harper onTwo and a Half Men, one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. The series started in 2003 with Cryer andCharlie Sheenplaying the lead roles. However, Sheen was unceremoniously fired from the sitcom after eight seasons.
Despite Sheen’s exit, Cryer remained a lead on the sitcom for four more seasons with Ashton Kutcher replacing the former. On X (formerly Twitter), politician Matt Gaetz claimed that the show’s success was mostly because of Sheen’s brilliant performance as Charlie Harper.

Cryer hit back at Gaetz’s claim, arguing that the series lasted four more seasons without Sheen. Moreover, Cryer also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2012. As a result, Cryer strongly refuted the sentiment that the series’ success was only due to Sheen.
And FWIW, this wasn’t meant as a slam on Charlie.He was undeniably the star of the show. And a fantastic actor. Despite his issues, we had many more highs than lows.But you can’t say he “carried” a show that lasted four years without him.

Cryer stated the above in a follow-up tweet, clarifying that he did not mean to discredit Sheen for his contribution to the series. Moreover, the actor admitted that Sheen was a major reason behind the show’s success. However, he argued that Sheen wasn’t the only reason for its popularity.

Whilecritical reception of the series dwindled after Sheen’s exit, the decline was partly due to the poor writing. Nonetheless, Cryer made good work of whatever he was offered, and the show managed todraw inover 10 million viewers even during its twilight. Therefore, it is safe to say that Cryer made a strong case that Sheen did not carry the series alone.
