WWE – where larger-than-life superstars collide in a whirlwind of body slams and the drama hits harder than a steel chair to the face. Standing tall and proud amidst this mayhem is none other than the man, the myth, the legend, John Cena. His presence is so strong that one can easily feel him in the room, even if they can’t really see him!

However, there was a time when John Cena almost didn’t make it big over at WWE. We know, it sounds ridiculous that the man who essentially became the face of the company was dealing with the possibility of rejection. Luckily, he knew just what he had to do to make sure he was going to stay for the long ride – impress Stephanie McMahon.

How John Cena impressed Stephanie McMahon

With a wrestling background good enough to boast,Stephanie McMahonwas the perfect person to take leadership roles at WWE. In July, she was named the co-CEO of the company after her father’s controversial retirement but she eventually resigned from the position whenVince McMahonreturned to the scene.

Coming to how she basically savedJohn Cena’s career, Cena was having a tough time during the early days of his career. In spite of an impressive debut, WWE didn’t seem too sure about him, and the writers never really had anything to offer him.

“I would never do this”: Dave Bautista Loves John Cena But He Can Not Respect The Way Cena is Leaving WWE Forever

During what was supposed to be his last UK tour, Cena and other wrestlers were riding a bus and that’s when he ended up impressing McMahon enough to save his job. How? By busting out some serious pro-wrestling moves? No, by spitting fiery bars instead!

A few wrestlers were freestyling at the back of the bus and Cena, who had decided to make the best of his time with WWE, joined in on the fun. He recalled onWhiskey Ginger with Andrew Santino,

“I would never do this”: Dave Bautista Loves John Cena But He Can Not Respect The Way Cena is Leaving WWE Forever

The writing was on the wall, [so] I kept to myself. I didn’t want to rock the boat, but my time’s coming to an end, so I’ll enjoy this. On the tour bus overseas, some of the guys are freestyling in the back. I just went in the back and waited for my turn and joined in and just did the best I could and just tried to unleash the fury.

And that’s how Cena managed to keep his spot at the company. All it took was him unleashing the fury with his surprisingly incredible rap skills!

Stephanie McMahon’s reaction to John Cena’s rap

Talking to Andrew Santino, Cena continued that while he and his mates were at the back of the bus freestyling away, Stephanie McMahon was in the front where she could hear everything that was going on behind her.

“Big set of balls on you, buddy”: WWE Stars Backstage Couldn’t Believe John Cena Betrayed The Rock by Exposing His Promo Secret

While talking to Cena, McMahon couldn’t help but be bewildered by the fact that he actually remembered it all. That’s when he explained to her the concept of freestyling. Needless to say, she was impressed.

Cena stated,

“Big set of balls on you, buddy”: WWE Stars Backstage Couldn’t Believe John Cena Betrayed The Rock by Exposing His Promo Secret

She was head of writing at the time. She was like, ‘How did you remember all that?’ I kind of explained the concept of freestyle and she’s like, ‘Well make something up about me right now.’ Sure enough on the spot, I spit a few bars.

As the head of writing, McMahon had a brilliant idea. She asked Cena if he would like to rap on TV and he was game. Thus, starting from the Halloween episode of SmackDown, began Cena’s rapper character in WWE.

There was no turning back from there. Thank the higher powers for Cena’s rap skills or else who knows where the man would’ve been right now?
