Jim Carrey has essayed a slew of iconic roles in his career as an actor. Known for his classic comic timing and panache for pulling his face into weird expressions, the actor seemed tailor-made for the role of Big Head, Dark Horse Comics’ most well-known supervillain. However, what really seems like a feat that Big Head would totally pull, the character was almost set to make his MCU debut not long beforeAvengers: Endgame.

Captain Marvel, despite as divisive as the character’s MCU debut was, delivered over a solid billion dollars to the studio with her film, something that brought it a lot of bandwidth with Marvel. The film was set in the 90s and featured a young Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. Also, to sell the setting to viewers a little more, the film would have featured Jim Carrey’s iconic supervillain, albeit not as a character.
Captain Marvel would have mistaken The Mask to be a Skrull
Captain Marvel crash lands on Earth in a Blockbuster, a setting that confirms where we are in the timeline of the MCU. Upon crashing on Earth, one of the first things that the character does is shoot down an effigy of Arnold Schwarzenegger, as he was inTotal Recall. This scene was originally supposed to feature Jim Carrey’s version of The Mask, which came out in 1994.

Carol Danvers would have mistaken the green villain/hero to be a Skrull, something that could feed into her suspicions about the Planet. However, the filmmakers failed to receive the permissions required to put this particular gag in the film and had to change the poster cut out to one ofTotal Recall.
Jim Carrey was rumored to be in a completely different role in the MCU
It was long rumored thatJim Carreywould be making his MCU debut as this universe’s version of MODOK. The idea was that MODOK would appear in multiple Disney+ shows, way back in 2021, when the industry was still on its way out of lockdown. However, this was proven wrong, as MODOK made his debut in the MCU inAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, where the role was essayed by Corey Stoll ofHouse of Cardsfame.

There do not seem to be any active plans to involve Jim Carrey in the MCU just yet. However, given that the multiverse has been split wide open in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it may be possible that the actor could feature in the franchise, either as an important character or as just a cameo. After all, who wouldn’t want to see Jim Carrey essay the role of Impossible Man? Perhaps, he could serve as the antagonist for the sequel to 2025’sThe Fantastic Four?
