During his appearance on Variety’sAwards Circuitpodcast, Stan opened up about his next Marvel film and about how he missed working with one Marvel co-star.

Stan andAnthony Mackie‘s dynamic became iconic inCaptain America: Civil War, leading to the pair getting a separate series of their own. After the series, Mackie received his ownCaptain Americamovie in the MCU, while Stan joined Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and others inThunderbolts*.
When asked if he would make an appearance inCaptain America: Brave New World, Stan shared that he didn’t get to work with Mackie this year. He shared that it was a quieter year for him because he didn’t see hisThe Falcon and the Winter Soldierco-star. He begrudgingly admitted that he missed Mackie on a daily basis. Stan toldVariety‘sAwards Circuitpodcast:
[Filming] Thunderbolts*, let me tell you, it was a much quieter year for me because I didn’t see Anthony Mackie. So, I’ll say that. Although I miss Anthony Mackie like daily, and it’s something I don’t like to admit.
Nevertheless, he is excited to be part ofMarvel’s new anti-hero team. He shared that it is Marvel’s version ofThe Breakfast Club, a story about a group of misfits. Stan shared,“It’s a weird group thrown together, and I think people are going to love it.”Thunderbolts*, helmed by Jake Schreier, will arrive in theaters on June 27, 2025.

They revealed that Sam’s service and Bucky’s earlier unstable mind played factors in the decision.

While Mackie has since put on a commendable performance as the new Captain America, fans wouldn’t mind seeing Bucky wield the shield once.
Sebastian Stan dropped a hint along this line when he appeared at the Tokyo Comic Con. He entertained fans with a prop shield and announced on the mic,“Not Captain America… yet”(via @R_I_F_B / X). Fans took this comment as a possibility thatwe could soon see him with a shieldin the upcomingMultiverse Sagafinale films.
