Doctor Whohas always brought about some of the most unique storylines throughout its course with a runtime of over half a century. From episodes likeBlinkandThe Girl in the FireplacetoThe Day of the DoctorandVincent and the Doctor, there are always ways in which the series has brought about some tearful emotions in the fans.

This, however, is only one side of the coin. Despite the many likes storylines and episodes, there are also those that did not sit too well with fans. Some were controversial in their opinion. These included the story of Clara Oswald, the Bad Wolf storyline as well as the most controversial of the lot, the Timeless Child. While the last one got many fans disappointed, Russell T. Davies does not see it the same way.
Doctor Who Will Not Abandon the Timeless Child
The planet of Gallifrey has always seen the Doctor to be different from all the other Time Lords. Whether it was with the war against the Daleks or his dedication to trapping himself for 2000 years just to save Clara’s life. The Doctor of War was not one whom everyone feared because of their ruthlessness but because they never carried a weapon with them. No matter the face they wore, the Doctor was, is, and will always be different from the others.
“Let’s stare that question right in the eye. I’m not going to unwrite my good friend Chris Chibnall’s work on The Timeless Children. I’m not going to deny what he wrote. I’m going with it. It’s absolutely fine.”

When Chris Chibnall introduced the concept of the Timeless Child throughJodie Whittaker‘s era, fans were not happy. The Timeless Child essentially became an unknown being of unknown origins. No one knew about the child, not even the Time Lords. This being was responsible for the people of Gallifrey to be capable of regenerating. That is, while everyone else had limited regenerations, the Timeless Child had an infinite amount.

This child was later revealed to be none other than the Doctor. While this would mean that there could be an endless amount of Doctor Who episodes, it also took away the stakes of what each regeneration meant.Russell T. Daviesdid not think of it this way and had no intentions of removing the plotline either as he toldSFX.
Russell T. Davies Sees a Positive Light in the Timeless Child
Speaking withGames Radar, Russell T. Davies talked about how it wasn’t fair for the plotline created by Chris Chibnall to get such backlash. In his opinion, the story fit like a glove and he would do anything in his power to continue it even more.
“So, that’s a man always searching for a family, always creating a found family, which is wonderful, I love that. And so it fits for him to be adopted, to have been lost in the universe abandoned as a child. It’s one of those great bits of lore that actually resonates with what the character always was, I’m overjoyed with it.”

According to him, it is only ideal for the Doctor to not be a real Time Lord because all around him, his family has never been one of blood. It is not about the countless regenerations or the endless episodes that come with it, but more so how the Doctor isn’t someone who has a home in a place but in people.
Even Disney Backing Wasn’t Enough for Doctor Who to Achieve What Jon Hamm’s Mad Men Did by Shelling Out $250,000 for Only One Scene
He instead wants to continue on with the story. Davies sees unopened books of stories that are just waiting for fans to take in. So for fans who were disappointed by the revelation, now have to buckle up for an even more unexplored route.
Doctor Whois available to watch on Disney+.
