The firstGod Of Wargame which came out in 2005, was unique from other action-adventure games of its time. It was the brainchild of David Jaffe, who focused on making the game stand out with its combat, story, and visuals. Since then, the game that came on the PS2 has been a fan favorite.

While the game saw eight other installments being made, David Jaffe is only credited for making the first two games. Jaffe stepped down from the franchise and parted ways with Sony to move on and work on other projects. Even though he left the franchise, he has always been interested in the games.

During an interview withMTVin 2010,David Jaffewent on to throw some light on his departure from theGod of Warfranchise after the first two games. However, stayed away from revealing the actual reason for his departure from the game.
Despite not being a part of the game franchise anymore, Jaffe in the interview added that he doesn’t hold anything against Sony or the game’s new development team. He also said,

“I’m always excited for the team and excited for the game, but it’s not my game anymore, it never really was.”
Jaffe, in one of his video posts, addressed the burning question of regrets, if any, for leaving the franchise and Sony. In his reply to fans, he said,

“I always say ‘No, no, no, no,’ and I don’t. I have no regrets.”
Even though he is not a part of the series anymore, Jeff always kept track of theGod of Wargames. WhenGod of War Ragnarokcame out, the former creative director took to his YouTube channel to share histhoughts. He added,

“I don’t like the direction God of War is going in at all.”

He later clarified that he loved the gameplay, but he was unhappy with the developers’ creative decisions that went behind the game.

Fans got to see the last of the series withGod of War: Ragnarokwhich came out in 2022, and theValhalla DLCwhich came out last year. Since both the games set up the plot for future titles, fans are eagerly waiting to hear something new from Sony.
Finally, there is a piece of good news.Santa Monica Studiohas put up a job listing, and this might be the hint many have been waiting for. According to the studio’s website, they are looking for a Quest Designer for an unannounced “character-centric action game.”
