The upcomingAssassin’s Creed Shadowscertainly brings a new tinge of gameplay mechanics and narrative inclinations that we haven’t seen in previousAssassin’s Creedgames before.

However, Ubisoft’s new project is gaining a lot of backlash due to its choice of a lead protagonist and how the game may not be as historically accurate as fans would like it. Developer Yoshiki Okamoto refuses to give in to this backlash and has his own opinions on the same.

“Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the most authentic experience”: Former The Last of Us and Batman: Arkham Knight Dev Can’t Get Enough of Slimlined AC
When talking about the game’s controversial aspects such as the lead protagonist, historical accuracy and everything in between, Yoshiki Okamoto expressed his disbelief regarding players’ sentiments for the same.
According to him, players should perceive Ubisoft’s game purely as a work of art and fiction rather than something that’s meant to offend a specific subcommunity of gamers. The developer says:

It’s a game, it’s fantasy, not reality. Even if Oda Nobunaga’s family crest is upside down, that’s just the Oda Nobunaga in the game, it does not impact how entertaining the game is.
Given how Yoshiki Okamoto has worked in the industry for a long time, specializing in games likeGenji: Dawn of the SamuraiandResident Evil, his take on the controversy comes from hands-on experience working on characters from all backgrounds.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Ready to Revamp “Dual Protagonists”
The blog also mentions how the developer’s team couldn’t truly flesh out the dual protagonists’ gameplay mechanics back in the day, even though they wanted to. However, he now hopes that Ubisoft will do this with polish, and give fans a taste of what it’s like to journey through feudal Japan through two distinct perspectives.

The game will tell the intertwining stories of samurai Yasuke and shinobi Naoe. While Yasuke provides a more aggressive and heavier playstyle, Naoe stays in the shadows, using agility and stealth to her advantage.
Despite the controversy around Yasuke’s background and how he fits into the bigger picture, there’s a lot to look forward to in the upcoming game. For instance, players will have the ability to switch between two characters and decide how they want to progress through a quest line.

Both of these distinct gameplay styleshave been explored at length by previous gamesin the franchise, and the upcoming open-world title will push players to test their mettle against a new setting with unique storylines.
