Space Marine 2draws heavy inspiration from its tabletop origins in terms of quality and quantity. The game follows the story of Titus, who was the protagonist in the previous title, and portrays him in a more nuanced light than seen before.

Space Marine 2is also looking to be a very chaotic game on screen with thousands of enemies to slash, and to achieve that, it has made adjustments toWorld War Z’sswarming engine, which has been heavily amped up to the max to match the expectations of the game.
Space Marine 2 Will Be More Gruesome Than World War Z
Space Marine 2is built upon the foundation of its predecessor and has been enhanced both in terms of quality and quantity. It has managed to increase the scale of the game a lot more than the previous title managed to do.
“It seemed like it was tacked on…”: Will Original Title’s Flaw Return in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2?
The story ofSpace Marine 2revolves around Titus, as he returns from the shackles of the Inquisition with a more dour and reserved nature. He comes back to the very same company he was leading before, but his soldiers do not know him anymore.
Titus and his Ultramarines are tasked with ridding the world of Tyranid swarms, as they are the main enemies and a huge part of the game. There has been a significant rise in the scale of these swarms. The game uses its own proprietary engine to achieve the large scale, which is the same one that was used forWorld War Zbut with more enhancements and upgrades.

Dmitriy Grigorenko, lead game designer, toldPolygonin a recent email interview about the proprietary engine used to develop the game.
A previous version of the engine was used for World War Z; it allowed us to have 500 zombies on screen back then. However, with Space Marine 2, we had to go even bigger in terms of both quality and quantity.

The current game sets the tone for violence, which has never been seen before on screen, and its engine plays a huge role in making that possible. The game looks to build upon the foundation of games likeWorld War Z.
