Baldur’s Gate: Dark Allianceis returning to PlayStation and Xbox after 20 years! But is a remake or a remaster?
Hack-and-slash fans from the early 2000s would probably remember the breakout gameBaldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance.
Developed by Snowblind Studios for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, the game spawned a sequel with a planned trilogy that ultimately didn’t happen.
However, after 20 years, we get to see the return of the beloved game across most platforms. But isBaldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance2021 a remake or a remaster? Let’s find out.
IsBaldur’s Gate: Dark Alliancea Remake Or A Remaster?
While many would’ve hoped for aDark Allianceremake or a remaster, it unfortunately isn’t either of them.
According to IGNwho first broke the story,Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliancereturns just as a re-release, and not a remake or a remaster. It comes with 4K support for Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One X, and PS4 Pro. This means that we won’t get to see any features added or a major upgrade in graphics.
They also report that two-player local cooperative play returns and PC and mobile versions will be released later this year.
The game will be available soon on digital storefronts today with a moderate price-tag of $29.99.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Allianceis a 2001 action role-playing/hack-and-slash video game developed by Snowblind Studios for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game was later ported to GameCube and the Game Boy Advance. CD Projekt was initially developing a version for Microsoft Windows which was utlimately cancelled.
The game is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting of Dungeons & Dragons with the gameplay based on the rules of its 3rd Edition released in 2000.Dark Allianceis the first video game to use real time application of the new rules.
Dark Alliancewas well received on all four platforms. The PlayStation 2 version won the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Award for “Role-Playing Game of the Year (2001)”. The game’s sequal,Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II, released in 2004 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox with planning for a third. However, legal issues caused its cancellation.
