Sadie Sink is now a front-runner to play Jean Grey in anX-Menreboot movie in the MCU. Marvel first teased anX-Menreboot following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. More updates came recently as X-Men characters began appearing in several MCU films. While some fans are excited about the actress in the role, others harbor concerns regarding her age.
Many believe that Sink is too young to play Jean in the films. Earlier versions of the character in the Fox Universe were played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. Sink looks younger than both these actresses, leading us to believe that Marvel might go for a story featuring much younger mutants.

Insider Jeff Sneider was the first one to report thatSadie Sinkis the frontrunner to play one of the most powerful mutants in Marvel, Jean Grey. Sink is most prominently known for her role as Max in Netflix’sStranger Things. She has also appeared inFear Street,The Whale, and Taylor Swift’s short filmAll Too Well.
Sneider shared via his siteThe InSneiderthat Sink was“someone who Marvel probably is down to be committed to for the long term.”He shared that she would have a pretty free schedule after wrapping up theStranger Thingsshoot this year. He also speculated that some of the members of the X-Men will appear inAvengers: Secret Wars.

After this report came out, her co-star andThe Fantastic Four: First StepsactorJoseph Quinnshared during his appearance at MEGACON Orlando that Sink“would be brilliant in that role”(via CBR). He also wantedX-Mento cast his other co-starCharlie Heaton as Wolverine. Interestingly, Heaton has already played a role inThe New Mutants.
Despite the support from fans and her co-star, there is a major concern about Sink’s role. Some fans believe that Sink istoo young to play Jean Greyin theX-Menfilm. However, those concerns can only be answered when Kevin Feige reveals his plans for the newX-Menfilm. Sink would perfectly suit a young cast alongside rumored actors like Harris Dickinson and Julia Butters.
Other actresses who can potentially play Jean Grey
While Sadie Sink is still a fan favorite, there are other popular suggestions popping up for the role of Jean. Some of these actresses could portray an older version of the character. Here are our five choices for the role of Jean Grey if Sink doesn’t pan out.

Tomlinson would be a more age-appropriate Jean Grey than Sadie Sink if the film were to move ahead about adult X-Men.

Holland Roden began her career on television and landed some small roles before landing the role of Lydia Martin inTeen Wolf. Roden’s reprised her role in aTeen Wolfreunion movie in 2023. She doesn’t have any major projects coming up and she could play Jean if Sadie Sink doesn’t fit the age of the character.
