As far back as one can remember, Lizzo has been one of the pioneering voices in the modern body positivity movement. The issue began as a source of concern for overweight or obese people around the world, but recently, the radical movement challenged people to view the issue in a different and more positive light.

Lizzo’s message was not simply about accepting someone for who they are, but also offering an inclusive environment for people to feel safe in and cared for. However, in the years since her arrival, an increasing number of social media users and influencers have misconstrued the message that she meant to share and misdirected the audience from the movement’s real objective.

For such a steadfast supporter of the body-positive movement,Lizzohas definitely found herself on the other side of the line in the fight against such a biased worldview. The singer’s message about inclusivity and acceptance has always been at the forefront of her activism, but as the years rolled by, the message changed just enough to cater to a different demography altogether.

Speaking toVogue, Lizzo expressed her disappointment surrounding the new message being imparted by the term “body positivity” and claimed how the movement was largely overtaken by“smaller-framed girls, curvier girls. Lotta white girls.”Although she preached inclusivity, Lizzo revealed she couldn’t help but feel somewhat betrayed by this new change:
What I don’t like is how the people that this term was created for are not benefiting from it. Girls with back fat, girls with bellies that hang, girls with thighs that aren’t separated, that overlap. Girls with stretch marks. You know, girls who are in the 18-plus club.

In September 2024, Lizzo posted her first image on TikTok since herweight loss journey. As she keeps encouraging and enforcing her message about inclusivity, the singer also shares her go-to workouts (Pilates and walking) and a well-balanced meal plan that helped her transform in the past year.

In the years that followed, the singer spearheaded and revolutionized the body positivity movement focused primarily on Black and Brown women. However, with time, her message about inclusivity was filtered and washed down into a version that no longer resonated with the Grammy winner.
