It has been rumored that Josh Brolin has been offered a role inLanterns, James Gunn’s show set in the new DCU. The actor is expected to play the role of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, which might be signaling a twist in the tale that is hiding in plain sight.
If these rumors are true, the elder Hal Jordan could betray a slew of plots that the character could be a part of in the wiser DC universe. Given that audiences will already be introduced to Guy Gardener in Superman, and that John Stewart is set to appear in the series as Hal’s partner, the Green Lantern side of the universe might be pretty fleshed out, being revealed to us as the franchise proceeds.
Hal Jordan might be on his way to becoming Parallax in the DCU
An aging Hal Jordan could indicate that the DCU might be prepping to introduce Parallax as the first major villain for the Lantern corner of the franchise. While those who are familiar with the character thanks to the 2011 Ryan Reynolds starer, Parallax has been depicted as the cosmic being representing Fear itself. Beginning inGreen Lantern #48, the story follows the destruction of Coast City at the hands of Mogul, turning Hal Jodan insane, and into the power-hungry Lantern, Parallax. Jordan would then go on to slaughter the Lanterns and the Guardians, starting his reign of terror. This storyline also introduced audiences to the brand new Green Lantern in the DC lineup, Kyle Rayner.
Pitching Josh Brolin as the DCU’s Hal Jordan might be a telltale sign of this plot line being adapted, given that Hal Jordan was depicted to be older when he turned into Parallax. While this role would fit Brolin well, there is one other part that Brolin already has proven experience in playing.
