It was a complete nightmare forAttack on Titanfans after the anime adaptation took a sad turn past Season 3 Part 2! The animation quality, which once reached its pinnacle during the prime WIT times, started declining visibly after the unexpected studio shift.

Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan

Fans noticed a lot of sudden changes in the art style, and these changes not only disrupted the visual flow of the series but also compromised the overall viewing experience.

Even to this day, people have been very vocal about their dissatisfaction, expressing their disappointment and frustration on social media. Their lingering distaste for the finale season of the series proves just how much of an impact a Studio change can have on the reception and appreciation of an anime.

Eren’s Attack Titan

Attack on Titandid not deserve such a subpar adaptation from the renowned MAPPA studio!

Mappa’s AOT adaptation was not satisfying at all, given their reputation as a studio for producing high-quality anime in general. On the other hand, the initial adaptation by WIT Studio fits well into the series, portraying the dark, suspenseful atmosphere of the world ofAttack on Titanperfectly.

Also, their unique art style and aesthetics fit very well with the gory aspects of the series, which makes it all the more clear why WIT Studio was one major reason for the show’s success.MAPPAjust failed to recapture that magic from WIT’s original adaptation.

Armored and Beast Titan

Although MAPPA has a number of quality anime series under its belt, likeKakegurui,Chainsaw Man, andJujutsu Kaisen, their adaptation ofAttack on TitanSeason 4 and the subsequent seasons did not meet the mark for some reason.

“That’s the moment… I wanted to see everything that happened”: The Exact Episode Where Eren’s VA Got Hooked on Attack on Titan Is Hajime Isayama At His Absolute Finest

The animation was jerky and unsmooth, the color palette was uninteresting and one-dimensional, and the character expressions were often unnatural and unconvincing. And let’s just not talk about their usage of CGI on the Titans, which was simply horrible!

Fans can’t help but compare MAPPA with WIT’s peak animation inAOTSeason 3 Part 2

Thefight scene between Levi and the Beast TitaninAttack on TitanSeason 3 Part 2 has to be one of the greatest animated scenes of all time. The sheer intensity, fluidity, and attention to detail in that scene were enough to set a new benchmark for action animation.

“That’s the moment… I wanted to see everything that happened”: The Exact Episode Where Eren’s VA Got Hooked on Attack on Titan Is Hajime Isayama At His Absolute Finest

The only scene that can somehow compete against this, is the Kenny vs Levi chase scene in Season 3 Part 1, which was also done by WIT studio!

However,MAPPA’s work did not meet the standardsset by WIT Studio by a long shot. So, the frustration is quite justifiable, as fans air their dissatisfaction over this deterioration in social platforms.

Levi vs Zeke

Dear God Mappa messed up season 4 so bad with terrible character art and stiff animation. Seasons 1-3 are animated masterpieces. I will never get over this 😢

In case one is not aware,WIT did not just leave the project voluntarilybut due to a restriction with their limited contract. In an interview withAnime Corner, WIT Studio’s President Wada even said that the series was only completed because MAPPA took it over and continued with it.

“People are too hard on him for being emotional”: Attack on Titan’s ‘Cringiest’ Scene Was Deliberately Included but Most Fans Missed the Point

But still, it is now impossible not to think about what may have happened if they had stuck with AOT. Without their creative vision and expertise, fans can’t help but feel a sense of disappointment and nostalgia for what could have been.

The entireAttack on Titanseries is available to watch onCrunchyroll.
