Kate Winslet has been in several significant films over the years. However, none have been as culturally significant and iconic as 1997’sTitanic.

The film brought her into a completely new light, making her one of the most well-known names in Hollywood and establishing her as one of the greats. Considering how much this film affected her life, it is quite surprising to know that the actress ended up missing both premieres of the film.

However, the reason why she was unable to attend is extremely heartbreaking.

During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on theHappy, Sad, Confusedpodcast,Kate Winsletwas asked about the first time she ever sawTitanic. Interestingly enough, she revealed that the first time she saw the film was in a movie theater of her own accord.

Having snuck into a New York theater, she watched the film with her friends and marveled at how many people were in attendance. While this is nothing new, many would be surprised to know that this is how she ended up seeing the film for the very first time.

When it premiered in London, I was really unwell. I had terrible food poisoning and was actually in hospital in London. It was completely weird.

Usually, the lead stars of a movie get to watch their films for the first time, either behind the scenes in a private screening, or at the premiere of the film. The actress went on to explain that she ended up missing the London premiere of the film. The reason for this was that Winslet ended up becoming quite sick. She revealed that she got food poisoning before the event, forcing her not to attend.

However, it would seem that her case was quite serious as the actress mentioned that she had to go to the hospital because of her condition.

While Kate Winslet was not able to attend the London premiere ofTitanicdue to her food poisoning, she had another opportunity to attend the US premiere, but she was faced with a serious personal tragedy. The actress explained that she was unable to attend the second event as well because she ended up losing someone close to her.

Around the same time, Winslet explained that she had just lost her boyfriend, and when the premiere was happening, she was supposed to attend his funeral. Naturally, she ended up going for the latter, dealing with her grief after losing someone close to her.

When it came out in the US, I was at the funeral of my boyfriend. I mean, it’s a terrible thing to even think about now. Obviously, I wasn’t gonna miss that. So I sort of missed all the everything around the release of Titanic.

Due to both of these instances, the actress ended up missing all of the release events surroundingTitanic.
