If there was one thing that fans could rely onBreaking Badfor, it was to write good characters. As though pieces on a chessboard, everyone had a purpose, and they served it well. Characters that needed to be fleshed out were done so in a natural manner, to the point where every piece of information that the audience had was intentional.

Breaking Bad’s Finale Helped Bryan Cranston Beat the Most Legendary Line up of Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Matthew McConaughey to Win His 4th Emmy

With this in mind, it is difficult to imagine that an actor would have to intervene in the writer’s process to advocate for their character. However, this did happen for one actor, who wanted a specific aspect of his character to show through in the beloved series.

Jonathan Banks fought with theBreaking Badwriters over a preposition

Mike Ehrmantraut is certainly one of the most memorable parts ofBreaking Bad.Eventually being a very big part of the main characters’ story until he found himself on the wrong side of Walter White with a gun, he was still one of the most iconic personalities on the series. He had interesting dynamics with several characters, and while he was not being rude, he was being wise.

He helped many characters dodge bullets and helped lay the foundations for many of Walter’s very important ventures. With this, one cannot help but wonder what pushedJonathan Banks, who played the role of Mike, to approach the writers with one of his problems.

During an interview withConan O’Brien, the actor confessed that he ended up butting heads with the writers of the series over a simple grammar mistake. While the writers wanted him to say, “Who killed who?” he argued that since it was an object preposition, the line should be “Who killed whom?”

Even though Banks was right, the writer did not budge, and the line stayed in the script at the end of the day.

Jonathan Banks had a bigger goal with his argument

One may wonder why Jonathan Banks decided to die on this hill. However, he seemed to have a very specific goal with his decision to fight the grammatical error. While Mike Ehrmantraut is many things, stupid is not one of them.

While he does not even get close to Walter White when it comes to scientific intellect, there are plenty of things that he beats the scientist in. He is quick on his feet and has excellent street smarts. Also being an ex-cop, there are many reasons why he would not make mistakes like that.

I thought Mike should help them with the big words.

With this in mind, Banks mentioned that he did not want his character to come off as dumb to his audience, since he was anything but that.
