Dinner for Schmucksholds a rare distinction that it shares with Taika Waititi’sJojo Rabbitand the DCEU’sJustice Leaguefilm. These films are just a handful of examples of the rarity in the film industry. What sets these films apart from the majority of Hollywood offerings is that these films feature songs from The Beatles.

Jay Roach wrote a letter to getThe Fool on the Hillin his film
Joe Roach revealed what he had to do to get a Beatles song in his film, which was a rarity in Hollywood, to begin with. Barring films made about The Beatles, it has been notoriously difficult for films to have such songs in their narratives. He said (viaLA Times):
I think the letter helped. I wrote it as if I were the Minister of Storytelling, telling Paul all about the character that Carell plays, with all its irony and sweetness and sadness, and how the song really captured the mood of what was going on. And I admitted that I couldn’t think of any other way to start the film.

The film ended up featuringFool on the Hillin its opening sequence, given thatSteve Carellplays an ‘idiot’ in the show, which works as a great comedy and dramatic piece for the actor. Paul Rudd also brings his A-game to the film, managing to elevate what the film was able to do.
