The second part ofInvincibleSeason 2 has started with a bang, and Steven Yeun, who voices the titular protagonist of the Prime Video series, is willing to see through the character’s development and the show’s future by being in it for the long haul.
It contrasts with his short-lived (if you could even call it that) association with the MCU, which would’ve reportedly seen him in the role of Sentry inThunderbolts.
We now know that the actor had to walk out on the endeavor due to ‘time passing’ and ‘things shifting.’ How his stint in the mega-franchise would’ve fared had he not stepped back remains a mystery.
There is, of course, a reason behind his commitment to the Robert Kirkman-created show, something that his Marvel gig may not have offered. And it has much to do with the ‘ever-changing’ nature and dynamism of the half-Viltrumite hero he plays.

In light of Season 2’s spectacular return, which fans had long-anticipated,Steven Yeunspoke toDen of Geekabout the future of his involvement inRobert Kirkman‘sInvincibleand what continues to bind him to it.
In Episode 5, titled,‘This Must Come as a Shock,’we see Mark Grayson, who Yeun voices, exhibit a range of dynamism that makes the character naturally intriguing to play. And this depth, this ‘room’ to do more and show more, makes the Prime Video series worth it for the 40-year-old actor.
This is why the journey through the series, likely to be long given the source material’s 144 issues, seems promising to Yeun. Of the Viltrumite-Human hybrid’s character growth and emotional versatility, theBeefstar had the following to comment:
“My favorite thing about Mark is that he’s an ever-changing character. I really like that he grows over time and that we can chart his growth. He’s so young that he’s not aware enough to make himself one type of person.”
Continuing, Yeun stated:
“Instead, he’s all the things: he’s funny, he’s goofy, he’s brave, he’s courageous, he’s strong. The fun thing about playing Mark is he runs a large spectrum of emotions.”
He ultimately concluded,
“He’s too aware, man. I like him coming into himself and his voice changing over time. Him being able to settle into his being. I’m just so stoked to be on this show.”
As Season 2 lays the groundwork for the protagonist’s future, Steven Yeun can’t find a reason not to be excited about what’s to come next. In fact, he’s in it for the long haul and is, much like the fans, willing to stick around for upcoming adventures.

While three more episodes are left in Season 2, the animated superhero series’ creator, Robert Kirkman, feels that the third installment will honor the remarkable legacy of its predecessors and contain more memorable moments to look forward to. His comments toThe Ringerindicate promise for the show’s future, even though he acknowledges that it might be somewhat early to talk about the upcoming season.
When he was asked about the current run and the goals he had in mind before approaching S2, the comic book writer said:
“My goal for the show is … that every season builds on the one before it so that you have these intense moments in the show, hopefully, moments that are very memorable. And I want moments in the successive seasons to be bigger, more memorable, more unique.”
This modus operandi was evident in Season 2 and will be so even in the next one. At least, that’s what Kirkman believes:
“It’s something I think we’ve accomplished with Season 2. I’m very excited about that, and it’s something that I think we’ve accomplished with Season 3 as well, although probably too early to talk about that.”
According to other reports, KirkmanandSteven Yeun have confirmed that although the wait for the present season was prolonged, with the two-parter release strategy further diminishing momentum, this would not be the case for the third iteration. So, if Season 3 indeed features“bigger, more memorable”moments, we won’t have to wait too long to witness it happen.
For now, fans continue to anticipate the remaining episodes in Season 2, with the recently released Episode 5 already having heightened the stakes, leaving the fate of several characters in jeopardy.
