Jared Padalecki was one-half of the face of The CW’sSupernatural, which included his onscreen brother Jensen Ackles as well. However, being the lead of a show likeSupernatural, which has 22 episodes to a season, could not be easy, and that is the reason Padalecki had a strange request from the writers.

Jared Padalecki opened up about one request that he hoped the writers of the show would listen to. Given the sheer amount of episodes that the actor had to shoot, and the sheer number of hours that had to be worked every day, Padalecki really wanted to have Sam killed off on the show.
Jared Padalecki would have loved it if Sam was taken out of the show
Jared Padalecki spoke about the unflatteringly long hours that he and Jensen Ackles had to work as leads of a show that expected them to deliver twenty-two episodes almost every year, which definitely would have taken a big toll on the actors. Owing to this, Padalecki had one wish that he revealed to the writers for Sam. He said (via Showbiz Junkies on YouTube) :
You know, when you are reading it, you are going: You have been working sixteen hours a day, and you are like ‘Uh, like, I am in every scene, like, kill me.’. But then after you shoot it, you are like ‘Man, thirty years from now I am not gonna remember how tired I am, but I will be able to go back and watch, and be proud of what I did.’

Jared Padalecki loved playing Sam Winchester, but what the actor has shared does de-glamorize the romantic notion of being part of the show. However, while the beginning of the shooting day could look daunting, seeing it through not only gave the actor the satisfaction he needed but also the push to keep on making films.
Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki advocated for smaller episode counts
Twenty-two episodes was a tall order for the Winchester brothers, given their actors believed that it had to bloat the show to an insane amount, which might have led to some of its worst episodes. IfJensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki had it their way, the show would only have a crisp and tight thirteen episodes per season, which would have allowed the writers to figure out a narrative structure that was engaging and well-written.
Eric Kripke’s Original 2004 Pitch For ‘Supernatural’ Was Heavily Inspired By Star Wars, You Can Still See its Remnants In the Show
Supernaturalhad a long and storied run, with most episodes retaining the quality of writing that had fans engaged with the premise of the story. With very few episodes that are universally considered abysmal, the show managed to control and consolidate its influence in the fandom space for quite some time, in a manner that few shows have been able to in the past few decades.
