Oscar winning actor Robert Downey Jr. has been a part of several fascinating movies. In this list of successful movies, however, his portrayal of Tony Stark in theIron Manfranchise stands out the tallest. But the actor refuses to conform to stereotypes by taking on fresh parts such as the 2009 smash hitSherlock Holmes. The movie was a huge success.
The massive appreciation of the first installment was rewarded when the makers brought in the sequel,Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, with theIron Manactor reprising his role. Even this movie went on to repeat the success of the first one and brought in a unique transformation of the actor that even Marvel couldn’t pull off.

The iconic detective has been played by a number of actors in a variety of ways. However, Robert Downey Jr.’s interpretation of the character on screen has its own unique flare and realism. The audience got to witness just that when the actor appeared inSherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadowspress conference in 2011 (viaCollider).
He discussed everything from the sequel to the characters in the movie and what it was like to transform into a woman for the role. He added:
I just put on some make-up. I thought I looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s dwarf brother, or the lead singer of The Cure, Robert Smith.
This idea was suggested to the producers by the actor himself when his character had to go undercover as a priest in the sequel movie. Further, he was left“little self-conscious”when they readily accepted his inputs for the scene.

I thought I looked like if my sister was training for the Russian Olympics…on steroids.(Further) Here’s the dumb thing, This was my idea. It was not in the script. I think originally it was a priest, and I said, ‘Oh come on, that’s dumb…that’ll be obvious.
However, demonstrating hisprofessionalismas usual, the actor stuck to his decision and played the character to the core, which ultimately helped the movie achieve a staggering $529 million at the box office.
Is Sherlock Homes 3 happening?
After playing the fictional detective inSherlock Homes(2009) and its sequel,Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows(2011), the fans were wondering if there would be a part 3 of the movie or not. To their surprise,Sherlock Holmes 3was indeed planned, as announced in 2018, for a Christmas 2020 release (viaThe Wrap). However, in 2019, the movie was further pushed to 2021, but it’s now 2024, and themoviestill has no updates or movement.
While this update concernedRobert Downey Jr.fans, an interview with his wife, Susan Downey, was all they needed to assuage their anxieties. During an interview withThe Wrap, she confirmed that the third installment was very much in the making. She further added:
Well, here’s what I can tell you. And Amanda (Burrell)can attest to this. Prior to this, we had lunch together with Robert, the three of us. And it was a very specific topic of conversation. (Further) So yes, it is in the hopper. We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.
She also stated in the interview that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes, with Jude Law as his trusty sidekick, Dr. John Watson.
