Let’s begin by comparing two characters fromBerserkwho serve almost the same purpose:Fullmetal Alchemist‘s Winry andBerserk‘s Rickert. Rickert is a prodigious engineer who is a former member of the Band of the Falcon. He is the brains behind many of Guts’ weapons; he is also the one who crafted Guts’ prosthetic arm. Winry also maintains the metal arm and leg of Edward and is an engineering prodigy who has a personal relationship with the protagonist.
Guts himself serves as a parallel to Scar fromFullmetal Alchemist.Scar is a survivor of the Ishvalan Civil War who had seen his people murdered in front of his eyes. Thus, he hosted vengeance against State Alchemist and swore to kill them all. Similarly,Guts witnesses the murderof the Band of the Falcons and goes on a journey to murder every last Apostle.
The introduction of Van Hohenheim is also extremely similar to a scene between Guts and Griffith. Edward encounters his father, Van Hohenheim, at the grave site of his mother, and we come to know that it is Hohenheim who he blames for the incident. Guts, on the other hand, met Griffith at the grave site of the Band of Falcon. Griffith being responsible for sacrificing the Band is too similar to Hohenheim’s situation to ignore.

InBerserk,the Eclipse is a sacrificial ceremony that occurs every 216 years, during which a new member of the God Hand is selected. to attain his goal, Griffith ended up sacrificing the Band of the Falcon.Fullmetal Alchemistalso has a similar conceptof The Promised Day, which is the culmination of Father’s 400-year-old plan and involves human sacrifices. Both the ceremonies are activated during an eclipse.
According toBerserk, the ancient empire Midland’s imperial capital city was destroyed by disaster. This disaster was caused by a previous Eclipse.Fullmetal Alchemistalso shows a similar history. A previous Nationwide Transmutation Circle wiped out Xerxes, an ancient country that existed 400 years ago. As a result of the array, the whole population of the country vanished into thin air.
