Aka Akasaka is one of the biggest names in the anime and manga industry, where his magnum opus,Kaguya-sama: Love is War,is believed to be one of the best series in the rom-com genre. The series held a special place in the hearts of its viewers, where it showcased a unique take on romance. Thus, it is one of the best series in the anime and manga industry.

The series’ popularity suffered significantly when Akasaka-Sensei was unable to come up with an ending that was acceptable to the entire community. Surprisingly, this was not the first time because the manga artist could not think of an appropriate ending for his other series,Oshi no Ko,leading to immense criticism.

Despite two back-to-back subpar endings to great series, he is potentially returning with one more series. However, fans say otherwise because they want the author to go on a break, and that too for just reasons.

Fans hate the series' ending

Aka Akasaka Failed To Live Upto Fans’ Expectations Twice in a Row

One of the most important aspects of storytelling is not how gripping the overline plot and the characters are but how an artist chooses to give an appropriate ending to his work. A poorly planned result would not only hurt the legacy of the show but also lead to massive online backlash from the fans of the series.

Just ask Kohei Horikoshi, whoruined Izuku Midoriya’s journey as a pro-hero. Akasaka-Sensei followed the same path as he decided to shift his focus after he ended the show on Season 3, which provided ample content, where a fourth season can be made.

Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Mangaka was Okay with Fans Hating the Titular Hero as Long as This Character Got All Their Love

Nevertheless, the anime, which is based on the manga, has been announced to publish its final chapter in October 2022, where the co-protagonists kiss each other but don’t confess their feelings.

This led to Shinomiya being over the moon, while Shirogane was panicking because of the effect of the kiss. However, none of them won the battle, as none of them managed to get the other to confess first.

Though he managed to make the rom-com show a great watch byovercoming the work’s biggest limitation, a poor ending ruined the spell it had on its viewers. Likewise, his other work,Oshi no Ko,has been slammed for having a terrible conclusion.

The criticism arose from the last 3 to 4 chapters, around Aqua’s death, where the main point of criticism was the character not receiving a good enough farewell. The series concluded in Chapter 166, where Aqua took an extreme measure after confronting Hikaru, where he realized that he must take extreme measures to protect Ruby.

Death Note With Romance: Kaguya-sama Author Aka Akasaka on the Real Inspiration Behind ‘Intellectual’ Rom-Com

Thus, he decides to stab himself and drown himself in the sea with Hikaru to put the blame on Hikaru. This made the fans immensely disappointed with the work which had the potential to feature a better conclusion to a series that kept them hooked for so long.

However, it looks like the mangaka has not learned his lesson because a news page (@MangaMoguraRE) on X stated that Aka Akasaka will return with a new manga series in Spring 2025. The art will be done by Aji Chika, and Aoi Kujira will be the head writer; it will be a part of the Weekly Young Jump magazine, with the teaser image indicating it to be a fantasy series.

Fans Urge The Akasaka-Sensei to Take Rest

Even though the idea of a fantasy series sounds alluring to the ears, the poor track record following the conclusion of the two series has kept the fans skeptical. As a result, the series is not met with excitement but criticism.

The followers of the mangaka felt that Akasaka-Sensei should take some time off from the upcoming project and rejuvenate his creative muscles. They did not shy away from voicing their opinion on the post too; they commented,

Nah he need to take a break and get back to the drawing board because these last two endings have been horrible

Finally a new series I can hate on

brother will not rest

Now i get why onk was rushed to an ending: akasaka got bored and already started working on a new manga.

Goddaymn, he doesn’t stop drawing eh

Nevertheless, it will be quite intriguing to see what the author comes up with in his next project because the storylines of the two projects were outstanding and he knew exactly how to keep his fans thinking about the series.
