Katee Sackhoff played the voice of Bo-Katan Kryze for over a decade before taking on the role in live-action. During the seven seasons of George Lucas’ animated seriesStar Wars: The Clone Wars, Sackhoff came to learn about Bo-Katan like an old friend. She thought she knew how her character moved, talked, and held herself until the realization hit her duringThe Mandalorian.

Sackhoff was invited to play the live-action version of her character when Jon Favreau continued the tale of Din Djarin or the Mandalorian for a second season. She was seen saving the lives of the eponymous character and the fan-favorite Grogu several times. She might reprise her role in the upcoming film,The Mandalorian & Grogu.

She shared that the movement of the character while sitting on the throne was carefully devised byJon Favreau, the series creator. She shared that Favreau kept“having me sit, and then walk back, and sit, and walk back.”She shared that it was normally not the way royalty sat on a throne, but they wanted to portray the character’s issues as a metaphor.
Such intrinsic details initially threw off Sackhoff completely. She had played the voice of the character for over a decade before she took on the live-action version of it. According to Sackhoff, she was well-prepared for the role, especially since she knew the backstory of the character like the back of her hand.

However, her confidence only lasted until she“stepped on stage”.She didn’t realize how different it wasto play this version and she suddenly felt that she was unprepared. Sackhoff toldStarWars.com:
You know, it’s a completely different medium and I don’t think I realized how different it was, to be honest, until I actually stepped on stage. I thought that I had done all of the work and realized that I didn’t actually know how Bo-Katan moved and talked and held herself. All of a sudden, I felt completely unprepared even though I knew so much about her and her backstory.

However, Lady Kryze didn’t let her underconfidence stop her fromgiving her all to the character. The result was a powerful character who appeared inSeason 2and grew in importance inSeason 3. At this point, fans would be disappointed if she doesn’t make it toThe Mandalorianfilm.
