X-Men ‘97, Beau DeMayo

X-Men ’97has entered its final leg of episodes, igniting a war between mutants and human-sentinel hybrids created by Bastion. As the war kicks into high gear, fans are expecting to see a slew of omega-level and beyond-omega-level mutants enter the fray, along with other heroes who are sympathetic to the mutant cause.

The war is expected to be on a massive scale, given the number of human-sentinel hybrids that Bastion has created in secret. However, the Mutants could have some of their own heavy hitters join the fray to fight for the mutant extinction, and Beau DeMayo, the creator and head writer on the show, could have hinted at one particular mutant that fans cannot wait to see.

Scarlet Witch

The last three episodes ofX-Men ’97are headed towards a major conflict in the series, with the reveal of the fact that Magneto is still alive and his escape from Bastion’s research facility, it is safe to say that the war for mutant existence has begun. Even Charles Xavier, who has been largely absent in the season, has returned from the Shi’ar Empire, calling his X-Men to him to put an end to the war (or perhaps to fight in it).

However, other superheroes could also join the fight, and fans really want to see one mutant who has been sidelined by the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Wanda Maximoff. Series creatorBeau DeMayowas quick to fan the rumors when he responded to whether Wanda could show up in the final three episodes of X-Men ’97:

I can’t say but I’d keep my eyes peeled

This could just mean that the mutant will make a small cameo, or could have a major part to play in the war that has begun. With Bastion’s involvement with characters like Doctor Doom, and Baron Zemo, it is possible that the Avengers and Fantastic Four could show up, with Wanda appearing as a member of the former.

X-Men ‘97

X-Men’ 97could have a finale that parallelsAvengers: Endgame

The latest episode ofX-Men ’97revealed that Bastion’s team-up with Mister Sinister was supported by other factions in the Marvel Universe, namely Baron Zemo and Doctor Doom. There was also an unnamed woman who was part of the conference, who remains largely unidentified.

This would mean that the war against the mutants has more stakeholders than what was initially anticipated, which could get other, non-mutant heroes involved in the war, such as Black Panther, Captain America, and Doctor Strange.

This could lead to a final battlethat is very reminiscent ofAvengers: Endgame, as the show brings together heroic factions from across the Marvel Universe to fight a global threat like Bastion. Doctor Doom and Baron Zemo could bring their armies and allies into the war as well, which could set off a conflict at a scale that this version of the Marvel world has yet to see.

X-Men ’97can be streamed on Disney+
