During his video interview withEntertainment Weekly, actorChris Pinetalked about his audition for theStar Trekfilm. He took over the role of Captain Kirk inJJ Abrams’ 2009 reboot and reprised the character in 2013’sStar Trek Into Darknessand 2016’sStar Trek Beyond.

“I got the audition for it, went out for it, didn’t get it, didn’t think anything of it. Three, four, five months had passed so I’d like completely forgotten about it, and then I went off and did this film, and my agent said, ‘Do you want to go in for Star Trek again?’ I said, ‘I already go in, I didn’t get the part. I didn’t think it was any good,’ and he said, ‘They want you to come back in and audition for JJ.’”
The actor did not mention why he was turned down in the first audition, and he also failed to share what made him try again. But, fans would be glad that he listened to his guts because this time, he was going to be chosen.

“I remember going in, and JJ was really fun, and you know, it’s ridiculous, you’re sitting, standing, acting in an office in Hollywood, and you’re talking about phasers and thrusters and the battleships going down and Klingons are coming after you. It’s acting with a capital A.”
Pine remarked thatauditioningis very fun but also disheartening. For the actor, it was “much more the case I think back then than it is now, where it’s like to be in a film was like a big, big effing deal.”
