Unfortunately, the Hunter x Hunter manga went on an indefinite hiatus for a long time. The series made a return but is now on hiatus once more. Hunter x Hunter writer Yoshihiro Togoashi has not been well for a long time and is suffering from intense back pain, making it very difficult for him to work on the project.
15 Anime Characters That No One Hates
From Dragon Ball’s Goku to Death Note’s L, these anime characters are widely beloved by the community.
In recognition of his deteriorating health, Togashi provided some closure to the series, saying that if he passes away before completing Hunter X Hunter, then the given story should be deemed as its ending. Although we’re eager to hear the writer’s ideal finale for the show, the last thing any Hunter x Hunter fan wants is his disappearance. What we truly wish for is to see the series conclude while Togashi is alive, continuing to write and illustrate it until the very end.

Togashi Planned Several Endings For Hunter X Hunter Before Finalizing
In a recent interview, Togashi revealed three potential endings, which he labeled A, B, and C. He revealed that ending A is estimated to satisfy around 50% of readers and dissatisfy 20%, presenting a secure option. Ending B holds similar opinions of satisfaction and dissatisfaction, while Ending C, although personally preferred by Togashi, anticipates a high dissatisfaction rate of 90% with a mere 10% satisfaction. However, despite Ending C’s unpopularity, it aligns with the creator’s desires, but he still won’t choose this option.
Togashi also mentioned a potential Scenario D, not among the candidates, which could serve as the manga’s conclusion if fate intervenes, asking for forgiveness should that occur. Here’s how Ending D for Hunter x Hunter unfolds, the one personally chosen by Togashi.

Hunter X Hunter Ending Given By Yoshihiro Togashi
At the lake, a girl named Jin, holding a fishing rod, stands frozen. Suddenly, the rod jerks and Jin cries out, “I caught the Lake Lord!” She effortlessly lifts the Lake Lord onto her shoulders and faces a woman, promising, “I got him, I got the Lake Lord!” Jin approaches her mother, urging her that, as promised, she should not tell her to become a Hunter again. With no more arguments, the woman nods. Jin, still carrying the Lake Lord, walks away.
Jin’s mother tells her husband that her daughter’s dream is to stay on the island. The father agrees, laughing, and the mother wonders if Jin’s desires might change in the future. She wonders if it’s because of their lineage from Grandma Mito and Grandma Noko. The woman doesn’t realize Grandma Mito and Grandma Noko aren’t blood relatives, while the father smiles knowingly. Unwillingly, the woman, as a mother, says that Grandpa Gon was a famous Hunter, and Jin will leave the island someday too.

Jin, deeper in the forest, hears their conversation and claims that she won’t ever leave. The father, amused, praises Jin for having such sharp senses. The scene shifts to the shop, continuing its work just as Mito used to do. The Lake Lord has been neatly cut, and its internal parts sorted. While working, Jin reflects to herself, “Mom never gets it. When Grandpa joyfully talks about his days as a Hunter, Grandma Noko quietly moves away from her seat.”
Jin’s frustration mounts as she forcefully strikes the cutting board with a knife, weary from waiting for someone’s return after enduring months and years of pain. Tired of causing someone else to wait for her, the door suddenly swings open, and a chubby child enters, clutching a plant. The child enthusiastically exclaims, “I caught the Lake Lord for real! Let’s share it with the entire island!” Jin responds earnestly, expressing her long-held desire to be with someone she truly wants to be with, always. The child readily agrees with Jin’s sentiment. With wide smiles adorning their faces, they joyfully prepare the meal together.

A bird takes flight from the island, soaring over a town bustling with its inhabitants. Living in separate places, the son of one, the daughter of another, and the grandchild of yet another share warm smiles among themselves. They could very well be the offspring of certain characters and the descendants of others. As the bird disappears into the horizon, a figure in the backdrop observes the entire scene.
