Honkai Star Railhas a plethora of mechanics, and one of the item types that are quite difficult to understand at first arerelics. If you are coming fromGenshin Impact, then relics should be a no-brainer for you, as they are pretty much theequivalent of artifacts.

For starters, relics are basically items that can be equipped toboost your stats. They might not inflict damage directly on your enemies, but they still form a very crucial aspect of your build — considering the fact that these perks can be the deciding factor in neck-and-neck battles.
What Are Relics?
For each character, there are a total ofsix relics that can be equipped. Additionally, there aresix types of relicsthat exist in the game, and you get perks for multiple of the same type of relic. Relics are of two types: one withconstant main stats, and others with theirmain stat determined by RNG. Only Head and Hands artifacts belong to the former type. You can find all the artifact types and their possible stats below.

Apart from these main stats, there is also a subset that the relics can have, which is again, determined by RNG. There can bea total of 4 sub-stats, and each relic has a random sub-stat that is buffed when you upgrade it. These are possible types of sub-stats you’re able to get in a relic:
Players can upgrade relics just like upgrading artifacts in Genshin Impact, and there are rarities attached to these relics as well. Higher rarity relics have much better base stats as well as upgrade stats, so you should be aiming touse as many 5-star relics as you can. Additionally, 5-star relics can be upgraded up to level 15, while 2-star ones can only be upgraded until level 6.
The number of levels you can upgrade to increases by3 for every star.

How To Get Relics
Before you get your hands on Relics, you need to play the game for quite some time and ensure that youreach Trailblazer Level 15. From that point onwards, you will start encountering relics hidden in the game’s world — or by completing quests. However, you would soon notice that those relics aren’t the best, and you might need to farm to get the best ones, just like in Genshin Impact.
Once again, there are two types of relics:Cavern Relics, andPlanar Ornaments.
After you are level 24 and have progressed far enough in the story to reach theCorridor of Fading Echoes, you can start farming Cavern Relics at Caverns of Corrosion. For Planar Ornaments, you need to head to the Simulated Universe, which you can use once you reachWorld 3.

Relic Synthesis - Crafting Custom Relics
If you are looking for relics with specific stats, the entire farming process might get quite tedious. Thankfully, there is an alternative to that, but you need to wait a while before you can use it. Once you have reachedTrailblazer Level 40, you can use theOmni Synthesizerto make custom relics of any type or set. When it comes to the stats, though, there is still a catch. If you want customized stats as well, you need to useself-modeling resin, which is one of the rarest items in the game.
To craft relics, you need to salvage existing relics and then use the Relic Remains to craft a new relic. 5-star relics yield 10 Relic Remains, and this can be used in the Omni Synthesizer for the synthesis of new relics. Additionally, you’re able to salvage lower-rarity relics to get items for relic upgrades.
