David Corenswet is donning the Superman suit as we speak for another day of shooting James Gunn’s DCU filmSuperman. After replacing Henry Cavill, Corenswet received some backlash for trying to fill the role of Cavill but eventually, people started accepting the actor as the new Superman.

Corenswet and Henry Cavill were not the only actors who portrayed the role of Superman. In 2006, iconic actor Brandon Routh portrayed the role in Bryan Singer’s filmSuperman Returns.In a recent interview, Routh had some sage words of wisdom for Corenswet.

It was 2006 when Routh portrayed the role of Superman inSuperman Returns.Although the actor was later replaced by Henry Cavill’s Superman inMan of Steel,Routh became one of the iconic actors who donned the cape of Superman.

After Henry Cavill was fired and David Corenswet was announced as the new savior of Metropolis, fans were a little skeptical about his ability. Although his facial features do match the character of Superman, Brandon Routh thinks that it’s not that simple.

During a spotlight panel at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024 (viaThe PopVerse), Brandon Routh was asked whether he had any advice forDavid Corenswet. Well, the actor stated that Superman isn’t just an alien with superpowers.

I think the biggest thing for me about Superman is always recognizing the non-physical superpowers that he has. It can be cheesy to relate it to the ‘teach a man to fish’ story, but quite literially that is how I see it,

He further continued,

To me Superman is pure love, he doesn’t judge, He has to make some hard choices and stop people from doing bad things, but my goal for Superman is that he’s the guy that everyone can be in their person…maybe without all the flying and all the other stuff.

The script forSuperman Returnswas terrible. At least, that’s what fans were saying worldwide when Routh revealed his sage advice for David Corenswet. Fans were quite moved by Routh’s advice and how he knew the character of Superman so well.

Taking to their social media platforms, fans discussed Routh’s advice and how useful it would be for David Corenswet. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), people stated that Brandon Routh actually understood the character of Superman better than some other actors.
