Hogwarts Legacyis filled with dark secrets, hidden passageways, and magical puzzles around every corner. On the most wide-ranging and reoccurring puzzles that players run into are the various Merlin Trials scattered throughout the world. These were created by the one-and-only Merlin when he was a student as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and they span throughout the entire gigantic map of the game with a total of 95 trials to be solved.

Hogsmeade Valley is the beautiful valley region to the northeast of the town of Hogsmeade, and it contains a total of five Merlin Trials in the area. The locations and strategy for each Merlin Trial isn’t always an easy feat either. Finding the trials means players have to get close as they don’t naturally appear on the map. So here’s an easy breakdown of where all five Merlin Trials in Hogsmeade Valley are and how to solve them.

Exploding Stones Trial - North Of Hogsmeade

For this trial, fly up to the elevation to find the Merlin Trial just north of Hogsmeade itself. However, it is possible to get there on foot if you haven’t acquired a broom yet. There will be some enemy wizards in the area to clear out first, so make sure to have yourbattle spellsready. Next, activate the trial and use Revelio to highlight the various large stones that encircle the area. Unlike other trials, there’s no timer on this, so players can take their time finding each of the large stones and destroying them. Use long range explosive spells like Confringo and Bombarda to smash the rocks and the trial will be complete.

Sinking Torches Trial - North Hogsmeade Valley

Flying on a broom or a mount is an ideal way to find this Merlin Trial as it’s perched high above the ground-level of the valley. Activate the trial but then run down the main path, away from the torch closest to the trial spot. Go towards the other end of the pathway and turn around. There is an angle that allows players to see all three torches, with two high up and one on the ground. Use Confringo to light the torches as fast as possible, with each one sinking after it’s lit. Players will only have a few seconds to light all three, so be quick. Once all three torches are lit at the same time, the trial is complete.

Rolling Stone Trial - Northeast Hogsmeade Valley

The third Merlin Trial found in the valley is just west of Falbarton Castle’sFloo Flameslocation and another Merlin Trial (which will be number four on this list). Another one located high in the mountains, this trial has players rolling a large stone down a hill and into a big golf-like hole in the ground. Once the trial’s been activated, players will see a large circular stone on the path ahead.

Cast Depulso on the stone to get it rolling down the hill, but make sure to cast in the direction that is downhill. It will roll the rest of the way to the hole. If the stone gets stuck at the bottom, keep casting Depulso on it until it goes into the hole. Once accomplished, the hole will light up green and the trial is complete.

Moth To A Flame Trial - Northeast Hogsmeade Valley

This trial is right next to Falbarton Castle and is directly east of the previous Merlin Trials location. Activate the trial or not (you can do it later) then fly or climb over the broken walls that surround the area and find the creek in front. Turn left, following the creek, until a small clearing reveals a grate behind some foliage. Use Revelio to help find it, especially at night. Then, use a fire spell of your choice to clear the vines, then use Accio to pull the metal grate out. Climb through the opening, turn left through another small crawlspace and climb up the stone ledges in the next room.

If you haven’t activated the trial yet, climb all the way to the top and do so. Use Lumos to grab the first set of blue butterflies on the ledge before climbing back up and grabbing the other two, which are close by. Deposit one group of butterflies into the stone by the trial marker and find the other two up the hill. If you lose your butterflies, simply re-cast Lumos and get close to them. After all three stones are activated with butterflies, the trial is complete.

Moth To A Flame Trial - East Of Hogsmeade

This trial can be found by going directly east out of Hogsmeade, and unlike the others, it’s found on a little hill rather than up a tall mountain. There will be enemy wizards in the area so clear them out before attempting to do the trial. The first group of butterflies are down the path, next to some supplies left by poachers. Use Lumos to attract the butterflies but keep your battle spells ready. Turn right and use Confringo or Incendio to destroy a wooden fence, defeat the wolf that will attack you and search the area for loot.

Grab the second set of butterflies in the area and then climb the ledges on the right side. Snatch up the third set of butterflies and run back to the Merlin marker with all three in tow. If you lose one, simply re-cast Lumos and get close to re-attract a butterfly group. Deposit each group at the large stones by the marker’s location by turning off Lumos when standing close. Once all three stones are activated with butterflies, the trial is complete.
