The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) features powerful characters and actors with unforgettable performances, but the evolving nature of the franchises sometimes creates a divide among the fans. One such topic that’s been up for debate is the potential return of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror inLoki.

The show has been quite significant in shaping the multiverse saga, so this misstep could be a disaster for the MCU. Now that the studio has made so many changes, is there a place for Kang anymore, and doesLokiSeason 2 suffer because of it?
Does Jonathan Majors’ return as Kang undermine Loki’s journey?
Loki’s journey in the MCU is one of redemption, self-discovery, and responsibility, as he goes from being a cunning trickster to the god of stories. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki evolved beyond recognition, and now rumors ofJonathan Majors’ Kang reappearing in the franchise threaten to affect all that progress (viaScreen Geek).
Jonathan Majors’ New Bodybuilding Movie is Getting Love From Fans Amid Rumors of Marvel Return
After Kang’s variant, He Who Remains died in Season 1, the next season focused on Loki stepping into a new role, where he gave priority to free will over predestination. His sacrifice for the multiverse seemed like a perfect and poetic end to his character arc.

Kang returned in Season 2 as well and his presence felt more like an obligation than a storytelling decision to some even though he was important for the plot. Majors delivered a strong performance, but do we really need the character again since Marvel already dropped the idea of having him as a central villain?
Does the MCU really need Kang?
The increasingly convoluted multiverse storyline has started to cause problems forMarvel. Kang was initially a Thanos-level threat, and we were going to see multiple variants of him, appear across projects. InAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniathey introduced the Council of Kangs, but the film’s performance was so underwhelming that his being the central villain became questionable.
AfterJonathan Majors’ legal troubles, the studio decided to cut ties with him in December 2023, and they quickly shifted gears by seemingly pointing towards Doctor Doom being the next big antagonist. So all these factors can make Kang’s presence feel outdated because he is no longer a crucial piece of the multiverse puzzle.

“Charge them triple”: Marvel May Repeat James Gunn’s History With Jonathan Majors but Fans Want Him to Use His “leverage”
As the rumors suggest, Kevin Feige aims to bring back Jonathan Majors for future projects, and we don’t know ifLokiSeason 3 (if there is ever one) is also included. Overall, bringing him back in Season 2 felt like a miscalculation, and now possibly bringing him back in the MCU again can feel redundant and boring.
But no official statements have confirmed the same, and the matter of Kang’s presence in the franchise and what it adds to the narrative is rather subjective.
