As we reach the end of this year’sState of Playfor PlayStation, there is one final announcement that will doubtless blow everyone’s mind. Hideo Kojima is working with Sony to bring a PlayStation exclusive, hopefully in the next two years.

So far, there hasn’t been a lot of information released about what this upcoming title will be like or what even its name is, but we do know that it will be a new espionage-based IP that will be the culmination of Hideo Kojima’s career as he reaches his 40th year in the game development business.
Hideo Kojima and Sony Will Be Working Together on an Espionage-Based IP, Which Will Be a PlayStation Exclusive.
This isn’t the first time that Hideo Kojima has worked on an espionage title, and hopefully it won’t be the last. But from what was said, this looks to be a step away from the usualMetal Gear Solidfranchise and into something completely different that we have never seen before.
What makes this new IP unique is the fact that it won’t just be a regular video game; it will also be an interactive movie. This will allow gamers to determine how the game progresses forward, whether that be through choosing certain actions, talking to a certain character, or just choosing to do nothing.

Even though this will be a game, it will also be a movie in all aspects, like music, visuals, voices, characters, and much more. In this project, Kojima is looking to transcend the fog between movies and games as they try to bring it all together into one amazing project.
During the State of Play, Kojima explained in a rather cryptic manner that not only does Sony make video games, it also makes movies and music. This means that the project has everything it needs to be something completely unique from other franchises and companies, as Sony and Kojima will work together to shape the future of the gaming industry.

When Could We Be Seeing This Project Make Its Official Debut?
Usually, with game development, it can take up to 3–4 years to create a game that can run on a new generation console, but with a project, there won’t be such a long wait as it will mainly focus on the movie side of development rather than the video game side.
This means that once the cast has been hired, if they haven’t already, we can safely assume that it will only take roughly a year or two to film and finalise the project. If this is accurate and the tease from Kojima about his 40th anniversary in the gaming industry being in two years, we can safely assume that we will at least see a trailer sometime at the end of next year.

Keep in mind that this is only speculation, but with the love and care that Kojima puts into his projects, it will make sense that it will take some time and will most likely be groundbreaking, as he is very popular with making strides in the gaming community, so pushing the boundaries into interactive media is a big step forward for Kojima Productions.
Looking forward to the next two years, it will be interesting to see what kind of project Kojima will announce. Could it be a spy game that takes its style fromJames Bond? Will we be looking forward to Kojima’s version ofHitman? Will it feature supernatural moments or will it be realistic? These are all questions we hope will be answered sometime soon.

What do you think about Kojima’s cryptic announcement during this year’s State of Play? Are you looking forward to this upcoming espionage interactive movie? Let us know in the comments what you think!
