Arrowhead Game Studios’Helldivers 2is quite the success story for both the studio and PlayStation themselves – with the game amassing a rather large, active player base on both PC and consoles.
The game is richly detailed, and has a dedicated dev team that implements a few useful features here and there ever so often. However, there still is room for improvement, especially with regards to its user interface, with the Stratagem selection screen being quite a sore point for its players.

For the uninitiated, Stratagems are a returning feature from the originalHelldivers, and are an essential part of your arsenal. In short, these can be used to call upon orbital strikes or support aid from above,making them quite deadly in the ongoing intergalactic war.
There are more than a handful of Stratagems in the game, and keeping track of them can be quite a headache. Any player worth their salt would agree on the same, and the cluttered UI for the Stratagem selection screen makes navigating (and picking) the same quite a tedious affair.
The selection appears too random, and finding a specific Stratagem to equip is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. These equips are routinely updated inHelldivers 2, and the problem is likely to persist (and get worse over time) unless Arrowhead Game Studios does something about it.

A key area to focus on would be the addition of sorting options – in both manual and automated flavors. This should also be applied to armors and other equips, and is otherwise indicative of a resource management problem seen by the game in general.
In particular, picking betweencertain Stratagem equipscan be quite a hassle – given how similar the icons can look. A consistent color scheme without any distinctive, individual features does not help in this regard either.
Picking up the Laser Cannon over the Quasar Cannon, or the Commando over Spear is quite a common occurrence, even for players who are well versed with the game.
Saving loadouts would also be a welcome addition, and would help players greatly when jumping into battle. Another suggestion would be to sort the icons into trays containing each type of Support/Offense use case scenario.
Upon close inspection, it would appear thatHelldivers 2sorts its Stratagems in alphabetical order – but based on the Swedish language, which might be the cause of confusion.
If unchecked, this could turn into a massive problem, as players would waste precious gameplay time sorting through the menu instead of actually using the item and enjoying the game to its fullest.
Other areas in which Helldivers 2 could improve upon
Of course, the UIremains the least ofHelldivers 2’s worries. It still possesses a plethora of problems, ranging from poor game balance to absurd, artificial limitations. For starters, there is a distinct lack of firepower on harder difficulties, and survival becomes quite the annoyance (as opposed to being a challenge).
Certain weapons (such as the Flamethrower) need more perks and status effects, while other weapons (such as the Sniper Rifles) need serious damage buffs. Furthermore, many of the game’s Stratagems feel incredibly weak, and outright inferior when compared to other alternatives.

In addition, the team also needs to be quite transparent about difficulty scaling and nerfs/buffs to its player base. Crafting and skill trees could also be introduced.
Overall,Helldivers 2is a solid game, but with a few tweaks it could be an even better one.
