Being on the set ofStar Warscould be fun and exciting, but not all the time the actors enjoyed working especially when they were inside the trash compactor. Mark Hamill found time to have fun and liven up the mood, but George Lucas didn’t find his humor amusing.

It’s understandable why the director felt that way since there are days when schedules are tight, and they have to finish everything within the deadline. Hamill may have had good intentions, but it was a matter of wrong timing.
Mark Hamill once made a joke that did not entertain George Lucas
Mark Hamillis one of the faces of theStar Warsfranchise, and playing Luke Skywalker is a thrill for him. In theStar Wars Complete Saga Blu-rayinterview, he shared a funny story about howGeorge Lucaswas not amused with his on-set antics. He said that they had been shooting a scene inside the trash compactor all day, and it was not fun anymore. He tried to cheer up everyone by making a joke.
I still think “Pardon me, George, could this be Dianoga poo-poo?” was a wonderful ad-lib, and he looked at me like I just shot his pet dog. He put his foot on my chest and pushed me back into the trash compactor. ‘Cause that’s what it was, a Dianoga, all this stuff floating around in the water.

Dianoga is a tentacled, slimy monster that lives in the trash compactor of the Death Star. Indeed, it’s a place no one would want to get stranded on. Hamill realized that his joke did not land, and he admitted that it was “really inappropriate humor at the time” because Lucas might have been in the zone and focused on what he wanted to do on the set.
Hamill, on the other hand, claimed they were just actors trying to kill boredom since they had been dealing with the same sequence all morning. He watched a documentary showing in-between takes when they filmed that scene where they were escaping the Death Star, and he saw how happy they all were with how things panned out.

It only goes to show everyone’s professionalism. Lucas wanted toproduce only the best output, and Hamill and his costars delivered their roles wonderfully.

Now that he’s gotten to know his colleague, he figured out he’s very easygoing.

Moreover, he revealed that Lucas seems to prefer the post-production process rather than directing actors. This is indeed a very intriguing insight, but nonetheless great to know as many fans aren’t aware of this.
